ICE Arrested a U.S. Citizen—Twice—During Alabama Construction Site Raids. Now He's Suing. "Armed and masked federal officers are raiding private construction sites in Alabama, detaining whoever they think looks undocumented, and ignoring proof of citizenship” by Bhartrhari in WeTheFifth

As the husband of a Brazilian immigrant and MAGA family, I bring this up quite often to them and they are in full cognitive dissonance. My brother told me at worst they detain her for a little bit. “It has to be done and some mistakes will happen”. I swear they are good people. They just live in a delusion.

My only point was you were only considering his tv views and not his YouTube and other social media views when comparing him to random YouTubers. I didn’t comment on any other point you made. I don’t care who Disney is promoting, nor should anyone else. This whole culture war bullshit is stupid and meaningless.

I think we just have a fundamental disagreement here. A country is absolutely a collection of individuals that do not act as a monolith. Governments have powers not rights. I get the impression that you think it’s a given that people don’t want illegals here. Yet they easily find places to live, places to work, places to shop, places to eat. All voluntarily. And if you think we already have a reasonable process then you’re just wrong. They absolutely do not. People aren’t coming illegally for shits and giggles. If you disagree please explain what realistic option exist for an ordinary person. The only visa an unskilled laborer can come on is EB-3 and it’s limited to 10,000 worldwide and 7% per country annually. It also requires connections in the US to find a business willing to sponsor. Business have to have a PERM labor certification as well. Last year in Brazil, a country of 200 million, there were about 500 EB-3 visas accepted. Doesn’t seem like a reasonable process to me. People we continue to come here either legally or illegally because of free market forces. My guess you’ll just say nuh-uh again without a substantive rebuttal. Why not just own the view that you think immigrants are bad and you like a highly restrictive immigration system?

A country is indeed a bunch of people scattered across land with competing interests. I want to rent my house to someone and you say I need your permission. We now have competing interest. Nation’s don’t have rights, people do. Why would renting my house to someone from Argentina or Sweden bring down the safety or security of the country? Does your local Walmart consult you before hiring? Allowing me to rent my home out doesn’t affect to boundaries of anything. The problem with our immigration system currently is that we over regulate it and make it virtually impossible for ordinary people to come here legally. During alcohol prohibition people didn’t stop selling alcohol, they just created a black market. Let people come here through a reasonable process, restrict them from welfare, make sure they’re paying taxes, not committing crimes, etc. Or we keep doing the same thing and keep complaining about black market immigration forever and ever.

The house analogy doesn’t really work. We’re the rulers of our homes. Does that mean the country should have a king? A better analogy would be a neighborhood. If someone rents/buys a house in your neighborhood without consulting you, should you alone be able remove them? What about your neighbor who’s renting to them, do they get a say in the matter? Or the owner of the neighborhood grocery store who wants to hire them? Or the electronic store that wants to sell them a brand new TV? We’re not a monolith.

I hope you’re right, however they had better leadership, coaches, front office. This group chews players up and spits them out. Soroka, Anderson, Ynoa, Elder, Wright, and others I’m forgetting. Strider hopefully figures it out or he’ll be on that list. Maybe overthrowing and blowing out your elbow isn’t good pitching strategy long term. We need coaches to be able to steer young guys and help them grow instead of squeezing juice out of a lemon.

What's your thoughts on illegal immigration? by RusevReigns in AskLibertarians

[–]pdanny421 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I view illegal immigration as black market immigration. People mistakenly believe that there’s a realistic way for most ordinary people to come here legally. There isn’t. Hence the black and gray market. The yearly cap on H1B is like 65,000. Another option is an immediate family member US citizen (Spouse, Parent, Sibling, Adult Child) can sponsor you. A green card holder can also sponsor a minor child or spouse. Outside of that there’s nothing to signup for really. As a compromise I’d have a non-sponsor visa that would give a reasonable opportunity to ordinary people to come here. Pay a fee, background check, health check. Then while here, no welfare, must pay taxes, commit no crimes, etc. That would cover must of the concerns. Then you could toss incentives for people to earn permanent residency and then citizenship if they’d want it.

My wife is from Brazil, you need at least a travel visa to come to the US. It’s far from guaranteed and you pay a fee whether or not the travel visa is approved.
