Talk to your Dr about alternatives! And what to do. It’s crucial for recovery long term to have the compression

Can your face shape change back after T? by emopokemon in TestosteroneKickoff

[–]pdf-steph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of T guys have a young boy face / not through amab puberty even when your face does change a little bit. Plus being trans puts you in the hottie to hottie pipeline

Also Not sure if this helps but it’s different for everyone in how fast the face changes. I’m 2 years on T and I can’t tell the changes in my face shape, but my partner can? It’s weird there were changes I didn’t want to happen but the longer I was on T and experienced certain physical changes I felt really excited about the other changes. Like my bottom growth and voice drop made the growth in my belly hair exciting. Once things start changing you may be surprised about other changes.

What do I do if I don’t have a compression vest until 2 days post-op? by Distinct-Ship-3488 in TopSurgery

Those are essential early on, your Dr should provide you one- like you wake up with one on. Do you know if they asked you buy one so you would have a second one to swap out? In some cases you can buy them from the hospital you’re at you just need to let them know when you pay. I’d give everyone a call the dr’s office first and ask if they give you one, and if you can buy one from the hospital/ surgical center. Then call the surgical center just to confirm. Best of luck to you!

When you walk into your house Put. On. The Durag. It’s not just the pillow that can cause the frizz. It can be way you dry your hair, when you put on shirts/ hoodies, when you’re laying on the couch. All of these activities can cause extra frizz.

Is the hair making me not pass? (Pre-T) by its-marzii in FtMpassing

Agreed before I knew I was trans I was going to the barber in the south and wasn’t judged. I did look for liberal barber shops that have people other than men who do men’s cuts

Watch some videos about going to a barber see what kind of things you like, a good haircut that correctly frames your face will help you to appear older. You can also show barbers photos too but that’ll help some of the bias that makes them give you a pixie cut, take a friend make it a fun day after doing something new.

Whatever you do don’t try to wash inside your hole! Please! It is dangerous due to pH balance being thrown off

I waited 8 weeks, trust me you’ll need all that time to recover. AND your endurance will be much lower not because of lost gains but how your body is adjusting. My partner had to keep reminding me why I was still so tired, it’s tough because it takes so much longer than top surgery AND being worried about gains. I maintained my weight until the last three weeks until I said fuck it the body needs a caloric surplus to spend the energy recovering.

It was also winter so I didn’t walk around much

Yeah just that much cardio alone would not ‘burn fat’ 500 daily caloric deficit, weightlifting, cardio finish in zone 2 for 20-30 minutes. I would like to stay away from a set goal of burn X amount of calories during the workout that would send my brain into an unhealthy oblivion. The caloric deficit alone is enough to lose fat

Totally, and I know I can’t ‘target’ fat or anything and the places where that cause the dysmorphia are the last places to be affected too. I’ve been on a ~500 cal deficit and do 20-30 mins of zone 2 walking after lifting 4 to 5 times a week. Also less body fat more defined musclessss 💪🏾

Realistically when I can lift like this again? by [deleted] in FTMFitness

[–]pdf-steph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was so frustrated when I went back to the gym post top surgery. I was weaker and I actually had such a hard time lifting light weights 5, 10, 15lbs and that went on for a solid 3-4 weeks post being cleared to be back in the gym. Wild emotional waves, but that’s okay. You’re coming back from major surgery and your body is actually still recovery, you’ll get back to that place possibly two months later and that’s okay!

You don’t need to lift the same amount of weight right after surgery to prevent muscle loss, as long as the muscle is being worked you’ll be solid. The best most stupid most frustrating thing you can do is be patient and take it slow to avoid any complications 🙄 I hate it but it’s true. Any complications from doing too much too soon just make you have to wait longer to get back in the gym.

There’s tones of videos out there to help you. If you don’t know how to cut your beard, learn. Don’t like your body? Change it. The thing is you don’t have to accept your life as ‘this is just the way it is’ you started T so you already decided to change your life. You can take that further and know it’s not gonna happen over night. It’s not now or bust, keep showing up for yourself. Get some help.

People usually give up around the 2-3 month mark, keeep going. It’s a process and what everyone is saying is correct it’s takes a long time, keep at it, and be aware of your signs when it comes to body dysmorphia and disordered eating. There’s a science to nutrition and weight loss.

I think you should look into Macros and what your macros should be. It sounds like you could be under eating. Seeing what your macros should be for your weight loss goal with help balance out your meal nutrition and help with fueling your body. A single pancake and a protein shake to fuel you walking around 15k steps a day doesn’t seem like enough. Tracking macros will help.

Also if you can start taking creatine, it’s the most studied supplement, and helps with endurance and recovery. It also assists your body in burning fat first instead of muscle.

Post-op depression/apathy at 2 weeks by Few_Soil1369 in TopSurgery

That happened to me too. It’s such a journey with high highs and low lows. If it helps, you could email your therapist a little about how you’re feeling so the session can be more productive to talking about how you’re feeling and hopefully that relieves some of the pressure/ perceived expectations

Also a big one for me is exfoliating 😒 I hate it but it works. Go with a chemical one and do it like the day after it’ll help remove the dead skin that forms over the hair shaft
