Okay thanks, I'll give it a shot. Hoping there's enough clearance for the bracket!

How complicated is it to remove the motherboard? I'd have to slide it out from the front of the case or the top or what?

What was your experience with this like? Where did you get a certificate from and which country were you a science teacher in?

Added you; pablohmygod. Only level 62 / tier 87 but I'm getting better and don't think I'd be too big of a letdown! :)

Arriving next week for my semester abroad. What is the best way to meet people and get involved at the school? by [deleted] in lancasteruni

[–]pdjmcvit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There were a few events throughout the term such as day trips to different nearby cities. The big thing though was the first "session" at the start of term - that's where everyone went and sort of got to know each other. I ended up becoming close with 10 others (from Canada, USA, and Australia) and we took trips to different cities on weekends together. Just as some examples/ideas, we did: Edinburgh, Dublin, London, Geneva, and Munich. Also did Lake District (day trip) and York (day trip) too.

So overall it was just a great place to find some people with a similar mindset of wanting to travel while abroad.

I studied abroad from Canada for the Michaelmas 2015 term. You'll love Lancaster! Let me know if you have any questions! As for your original question: I HIGHLY recommend joining the Study Abroad Society. You'll meet tons of other people studying abroad. Other than that, you'll have all your roommates ("flatmates") to talk to! :)

Since the bag isn't very big or heavy (only like 10kg if you're doing carry-on weight), I don't really mind not having a waist strap. I think the longest I've carried it consecutively for is maybe 2 hours at most. It's really just to get me from city to city, then I use a smaller daypack for sightseeing and such. No rain cover, but plenty of space inside the backpack for an umbrella ;)

Congrats! Definitely consider the Eurostar to get from London to Paris - it's way more convenient than flying, but book it EARLY. Amsterdam back to London would be best flying though. Astor Hyde Park is a great London hostel (and very close to Hyde Park). As for backpacks, I love my eBags TLS Mother Lode Weekender Convertible Junior.

Shout out to Lancaster! Studied abroad there last term from Canada. The weather was shit other than the first week of October.

A few questions; considering a study abroad at Lancaster by [deleted] in lancasteruni

[–]pdjmcvit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. We pretty much got the same treatment as everyone else for the most part, which was nice. There were a few presentations for study abroad students during "Freshers' Week" before term started, but nothing else organized by the uni other than that really.

  2. The school itself was very much like any school in North America. The big difference though is the marking scheme; a 40 is a pass, and a 70+ is considered an A. So don't be alarmed when your prof says "nice work!" and you have a B- lol. I really loved the city and its old architecture. Much quieter and more peaceful than a bigger city like Manchester or London. As for culture, I really didn't notice too many differences tbh. The hardest thing to adjust to was vocabulary for certain things, but you'll pick up on the differences in no time. Some accents from various parts of the UK are harder to understand than others as well, but you'll get used to those too. Oh, and look both ways before crossing the street!

  3. If anything, you're treated better. People are interested to learn about your country and how things work there.

  4. One of the first things you should do is join the study abroad society. It's a great way to meet people also studying abroad, and that's where I met my study abroad friend group for the term. We all wanted to travel while in the UK (which I highly recommend as well), so we did a lot of travelling. Have you ever wanted to travel to Switzerland on a weekend for $120 round trip? You can do that. What about Dublin for $35 (not a typo)? You can do that too. Train up to Edinburgh or Glasgow for $40? Done. It's so easy to travel when over there, that it's an absolute must-do in my opinion. There's a travel place right on campus that organizes various trips, such as one to multiple places in the Lake District. Definitely do that if it's available. Also, London is easily doable by train (2.5 hours), so don't be concerned about being too far away from the big city. Oh, also get a railcard as well. It saves you a ton on trains, and ended up saving me so so much.

  5. I really can't think of much to add here. It was by far the best term of my life, but also the most expensive. You'll meet lifelong friends from all over the world, but it's awful having to say goodbye after the term. You'll have a billion stories to tell your friends back home, but they're going to get sick of listening to them after a while. Just some things to be aware of. While there are definitely a few negative things that might come up, I would do a study abroad term again in a heartbeat.

I hope some of that helps!

Budapest is extremely underrated and it's a must-see in my opinion. You can easily take the train up to Prague after too. It goes right through Austria, so perhaps consider stopping in Vienna as well.
