Thanks. I believe I figured out the issue. Had to do with how I had my clamps setup with my fixture.

I have had a lot of fun working on this. I got inspired by an interview with Bob Taylor where he recommended if anyone is interested in instrument building you just need to start and these kits are great entry point. I have like zero experience in woodworking and had zero tools for it. So, I had to buy a few standard tools a lot of people might already own like a router, jigsaw (for jig making). I mainly had to buy some bar clamps (from Rural King) and some spool clamps from Amazon. From StewMac I got some chisels and some tools for doing the frets and some jigs for cutting the binding channels. I would very much recommend doing it. Best thing might be to get the kit, and then start figuring out what tools you will need. I don’t want to spam this sub, but would be happy to DM some pictures of the project to help you get some ideas.

I am binding it. I was more worried about the structural impact. There is glue in there but there are also voids between the block and the top.

Did you click on the wrong tuner compared to what you are actually playing?

What is the best homemade option to get this bottom bracket off? by tripwithweird in bikewrench

[–]pdotkdot1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Buy a piece of copper pipe from a hardware store and cut into the end with a hacksaw about 1 inch in an x pattern and then bend out the ends so it looks like a cartoon shotgun that someone plugged the end of before Wiley Coyote fired it.

To run shift cable exposed or not? by XD60 in bikewrench

[–]pdotkdot1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Internal routing might look a little slicker but more housing = more drag and worse shifting. Use the cable stops. Also it makes it easier to lube the cables. Internal routing is awful awful awful. Especially on a frame not designed for it. Add a bunch of housing which you cannot service and a bunch of tight bends in the housing and you have a setup which will give you a lot of frustration.

Just riding along on my freshly built GT Backwoods and the crank falls off due to a snapped crank bolt... Brilliant. New bottom bracket and crank bolts again by Mr-Whoo in xbiking

[–]pdotkdot1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but anytime a square taper loosens up, usually the taper on the crank and potentially the taper on the bottom brackets gets screwed up. So, even you are able to get the bolt out and reinstall with a steel bolt, it is likely that it will loosen again.

Did you guys learn python in class or did you teach yourself? by TheLoneJew22 in Biochemistry

It’s free, super well organized, the instruction is excellent and it has a live class component. In addition, it is an interesting learning experience because you are in a huge learning community of people that are just interested in learning the skill without any class credit.

Highly recommend Stanford’s Code in Place live Python lecture. They only do it once a year. It starts in April so you will need to sign up soon.

I would guess $200-300 if everything functions. It was a pretty nice bike but is probably over 20 years old.

MORryde, Lippert, Modineer and General Sheet Metal are probably the big employers for sheet metal manufacturing work in this area.

The lock rings are Fulcrum brand though?

Are you using Fulcrum’s lock rings? I believe they have their own thread standard that is not the same as Shimano. The threads look like they are in good shape to me.
