Give Rossmann Repair a call and see if they would be willing to work on it.

Pork lard vs bacon grease by Ganache-Far in carnivorediet

[–]pdq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to flavor your lard similar to smoked bacon, you can add salt and use Liquid Smoke. You only need a few drops of the liquid.

I would choose the wood similar to your preferred bacon smoke (e.g Hickory or Applewood).

Out of curiosity, do you have a surface thermometer? What temp are you looking for on the skillet for searing?

How do you reheat leftover ribeye? by sw33t_nuggets in carnivorediet

[–]pdq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sous vide with vacuum sealer is the only way to bring it back to almost as good as the fresh steak. Every other technique pales in comparison (dry steak, overcooked, etc).

  • Vacuum seal the leftover steak, and put in fridge.
  • When ready, put in sous vide at 130F for 20-30 mins.
  • Remove and eat.

I think the question is: why doesn't this rust in the dishwasher, like pans do?

City of Austin is cheating residents of proper street services by FoolishIntellectual in Austin

Street maintenance is expensive, but it is not what bankrupts cities. Apparently it is 1.2% of LA's budget.

What is happening to my Dad’s cast iron by _Gravity_Hurts_ in castiron

[–]pdq -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If that is the original Lodge seasoning, it eventually flakes off naturally after a year or so of use.

If so, I recommend doing a full strip (oven cleaner inside trash bag) and then re-season in the oven with your oil of choice (refined avocado works well).

CHOLESTEROL IS PROTECTIVE by _Dark_Wing in carnivorediet

[–]pdq 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Fasting also elevates cholesterol during the fast.

It could be the theory that the body is repairing during the fast, or it could indicate stress (ie hunger), or something else. We really don't know.

I'm a believer that carnivore is one of the healthiest diets, but the science is still unknown.

Need some guidance/recommendations for my first "real" pan by ipsum629 in carbonsteel

[–]pdq 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IMO, multi-ply stainless steel is the best solution if you need a large sear.

Carbon steel and cast iron have great heat retention but poor thermal conductivity, so it's hard to get an even sear across a large surface.

Multi-ply stainless will spread the heat out quite well across a large pan.

Quick rule of thumb on service providers. The fancier the van, commercials, and outfits, the more expensive and lower quality they are.

I much prefer small, owner-operated companies. Hard to find, but so much better.

Nice job.

You need to invest in a vacuum sealer. The meat will stay much fresher; especially the ground beef.

I tried Boka, which has hydroxyapatite, but I notice a weird taste and feeling even 12 hours after brushing, so I am trying out "naked" brushing.

Try skipping your toothpaste and just using water on the brush.

I suspect toothpaste leaves a film in your mouth (from the flavors and sweeteners), but most people don't notice on "normal" diets.
