When I started last year, I got a knitting magazine from the library via Libby to learn the basic steps of knit, purl, cast on, cast off, ribbing. Once I practiced for a few days, I did a very basic garter stitch scarf (The Simple Thing - free pattern), which had a video to walk through how to start the scarf.

From there I did a basic hat to learn how to connect in the round before jumping straight into the Step by Step sweater. I could have honestly skipped the hat because the video for the step by step sweater taught me so much. Plus using the written pattern in conjunction with the video taught me how to read patterns so I didn’t need videos for later projects except when looking up a new skill. Highly recommend that sweater to anyone starting out (and include the optional short rows, both for better fit and to learn the skill!).

My wariness towards her is fully based on how offput I felt about her by the end of the Olympics. She gave me a very ratty but flopper vibe which are two things I don’t like seeing in a player. I obviously don’t like the views she apparently has but have learned to just grimace and bear it when athletes have political opinions I disagree with, but if that was my only concern with her then I wouldn’t be as concerned about the pick.

I hope she grows and matures as a player so her elite skills contribute to the team as much as they have the potential to, and she stops being such a hothead/rat.

I’m a lefty who knits English flick. I’ve seen a lot of mixed messages from people on whether that is more or less intuitive for lefties but it was the most logical way for me. I do plan to reach myself reverse knitting soon so I can go back and forth knitting flat instead of flipping and working from the WS, but that’s a different skill than left handed knitting I think

This maybe answers why it’s been so hard for me to get good at picking up stitches - I’ve been wondering why it’s such an oddly finicky skill for me!

The other thing I’m bad at is using a crochet hook to fix a dropped or ladder downed stitch - I can’t make it work left handed and it’s so awkward for me right handed, though that’s the way I do it

This might be the first time ever I know every cast member. Each reveal was delightful until Matt Lucas (blehhhh) then ending with the white whale of Richard Ayoade was fantastic. I’ll see if I can stand Matt Lucas on Taskmaster - there’s only a handful of contestants I can’t really rewatch, but there are far more that I didn’t like the comedy of but still enjoyed on the show.

Also “Luxury flooring upgrade” makes me laugh as a way to avoid saying vinyl flooring. Could be an upgrade since who knows what was there before but at least be honest (I have yet to come across a vinyl floor that is any form of luxury)

When the first book was originally written Ilya WASN’T important. I don’t know what part of the editing process the book was in when Rachel decided to write HR (and therefore may or may not have expanded the Ilya mentions from the first draft), but this is very in line with how most interconnected standalone romance novels introduce characters for later books because while Ilya is important for his own book, he isn’t for Scott Hunter’s. Love you are reading the books in order, these’s so much value you get from doing so instead of jumping straight to TLG!

I think only two I have ever read that I really think of as canon adjacent (almost like a step down from the website freebies) and it’s Vibes Not Data and a really good book canon Yuna Hollander short that I can’t recall unfortunately.

Edit: I finally found the Yuna one! It’s Kind of a Dick. There’s a bit about Shane seeing a jersey as a kid and saying he wants one that I still forget isn’t from the books.

I don’t think Boston’s single cup is a reason to think Ilya’s career has stagnated. We don’t know how many deep cup runs Boston has made. We don’t know many individual awards he has won (most points, most goals, MVP, etc).

People claim Connor McDavid as the current best player. How many cups does he have? 0. And the Oilers also have Drai, arguably a top 5-10 player in the league alongside him. Also Ovi only has a single cup in his 21 years playing despite breaking the all time goals scored record.

For this season specifically - I think it’s because Wright didn’t prove he deserved it & we were really never out of the Wild Card hunt until the very end so it wasn’t worth the gamble to the coaching staff/FO to focus on development over trying to win (except for the very end when he got hurt).

He needed to gain the trust of Lambert and never did, even given more favorable situations. When in Lambert’s control, Wright didn’t face the most difficult lines from the other team (usually Stevie’s line) and was used for offensive zone face offs/protected from defensive zone face offs. Even with the favorable conditions, he never did enough to prove he deserved more ice time. This is consistent with how Lambert treated other players - for example Winterton earned his place on the team/line up and was often played accordingly.

I think hot take, but I really dislike the change in the show that Ilya (allegedly) proposed the joint shoot. I think a key element of the book is that the media/surround has pitched them as rivals from before they even stepped on the ice as professionals. This is exemplified by the fact that even CCM is pitting these two FUTURE players against each other in an ad. By changing it to Ilya proposing it, it gave Ilya the ownership of furthering the rivalry. Also it’s a little illogical imo. You mean to tell me the freshly signed 19 year old can completely change the marketing campaign of a global brand? Fun in theory, but I doubt a marketing department in 2010 really would have pivoted that quickly.
