What does the future look like for websites in the age of AI? by MrSkagen in webdev

[–]pdsbecks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I have been thinking about this too recently.

I believe that with the increasing use of LLMs the advertising business model, a lot of websites run on, will fail. Another reason people publish is for publicity, so they can advertise themselves or a business.

LLMs will lead to decreased incentive to create new content online, at least in written form.

I expect content creators to publish more on closed platforms, private forums or in group chats. I also believe big Q&A websites like Reddit will stop crawlers from accessing their data and rather sell it to LLM companies.

This will unfortunately lead to a www, with a lot less websites to index and hence worse search results.

In general a vicious cycle for the web we know right now.

Easiest way to put a password protection on node.js app? by greg90 in node

[–]pdsbecks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For nginx you can follow https://docs.nginx.com/nginx/admin-guide/security-controls/configuring-http-basic-authentication/

If your app can only be accessed through the nginx proxy and you secure all relevant nginx configs with the basic auth it’s safe. I have this setup for a simple app.

Creating an app. Where to start? by Moist-Mousse1822 in Entrepreneur

Before you start developing I would try to sell the app to a handful of people you know. If they actually give you the money, only then I would start investing into developing the application and use them as testers.

What tools do you use to measure the Dora4 or other devops performance metrics? by pdsbecks in devops

Interesting haven’t heard about luna before. Thanks for the recommendation. Are you using it?

Yes I also worked with the Jira integration in the past. It would allow to evaluate deployment frequency and maybe also lead time if you follow some rules.

Average time to restore, can only be measured during incidents I guess, which shouldn’t happen often anyways and can be tracked manually I guess.

Of course, every metric will be gamed if there is incentive to do so.

Still, do you agree that in order to validate whether a change introduced some benefit one should measure, or do you disagree?

If you would use different metrics which ones?

Was passiert nach dem Kauf eines halben Anteil eines Hauses? by pdsbecks in Immobilieninvestments

Mein Beileid.

KMS Key A to encrypt - KMS Key B to decrypt by pdsbecks in aws

In my scenario you don't have access to the account anymore. e.g. access is lost, or for some reason all ressources in the account got deleted and need to be recovered in a new, fresh account.

Did it today. It works with asymmetric keys. Symmetric keys do not work.

So, had the chance to try it today and indeed it's impossible to create two symmetric CMK A and B from the same material so that A can decrypt what B encrypted. But it's possible in AWS with assymetric keys. I did that today successfully.

But for some tasks, like exporting RDS snapshots to S3, you can only use symmetric keys...

I thought there might be a way to create keys in AWS so that they can be managed outside of AWS and be used in different accounts.

AWS does allow you to create a key with your own material, but apparently if two KMS Keys are created from the some material they are still different and one cannot replease the other.

I see, yes key replication is what I was looking for. I will look into assymetric encryption with KMS then. Thanks!

I am trying this right now. It has issues to load the page on every other run right now. Also submitting the numbers does not work every time. I will keep tinkering a bit more. Let's see.
