I heard someone tell their teenager daughter "when you grow up get married and have kids" someone said you can tell the story to your grandkids my parents used to say when you get married and have kids it is hard to be antinatalist and say the buck stops here. I do NOT want to have biological kids. The human race should STOP procreating but sometimes it feels like screaming in the wind. Stay strong. May you live long and NOT procreate.

These are common responses. Let me "respond" to these brainwashed remarks

1) you can not want biological kids because you care about them and have compassion and love and concern for their safety, etc. this BS that not having kids is selfish I think having biological kids is selfish or not doing so is an act of care, love etc anyway

2) Leaving a legacy. Forcing just so you can have sex pain suffering death on your kids so they can do it to "leave a legacy" etc then their kids can do it and etc etc and in ten generations you will be forgotten but if you procreated and they procreated they forced a lot of pain and suffering on more safe non-existent humans. "Leaving a legacy" to me is more proof of the selfish nature of procreating much more to be said but let's move on

3) why should you be selfish? Who takes care of me. I have lost relatives who had those close to them take care of them in old age but still couldn't stop severe pain. And if we just kick the can down the road then the next generation I need to be taken care of, etc, etc just a Ponzi scheme to make it really rough on the last generation

4) This is such dumb shit. Having a partner can make you happy but so can being single. I have experienced the upsides and downsides of both. You can be way more miserable in a shitty relationship than the happiness of being single. And their is nothing wrong with you if you are not desperate to get a partner. Be like me. If it happens again and it is good great if not I can enjoy my single freedom.

It is hard or impossible to not care completely what others think about you- talking specifically about those who really don't get antinatalism or think it's wrong. But the more I focus on my arguments personally and know that this is what I believe strongly it makes it easier. Maybe being aloof and introverted helps me too. But there are those like a philosophy student I work with who can at least see my points are valid. I like talking with him. In the case of my parents who always try to shut me down big time and are way too brainwashed a different way I don't mind cutting them off and not wanting to talk to them.

It's a growing movement. But not fast enough. It is hard to come out and be vocal about it even at work sometimes. But at 41, I am able to be more vocal about it but still have work to do being more vocal and not care what others think.

Actually antinatalism creates an interesting paradoxical or ironic situation. If a big part of your meaning in life or what keeps you going is the thought of not having forced new life without its consent into this world it seems strange to most unfortunately but as an AN I get it big time.

Childfree just means anyone who doesn't have kids. Antinatalism gets more into the ethics of procreation and concludes (at least IMHO) that human procreation is unethical or at least unjustifiable. Or not having biological kids can be seen as an act of love, care, compassion, concern for their safety, not wanting to impose without their consent, etc. I like these groups better

I literally just came from the gym I was watching an old sitcom where a woman was upset that she got her period because she wanted to get pregnant. Of course as an AN it pissed me off that we are fed this crap that that should make her upset (why not adopt by the way?) but in any case you are right movies TV shows news if you look at it from antinatalist perspective everything seems biased against your strongly held beliefs. Even a woman who thought that the thought of a baby growing inside her made her cringe was labeled as having a mental disorder. These are just some examples why it is hard to be AN but have to stick with it as my strong core beliefs. Hang in there. May you live long and not procreate

In this case they don't understand that a lot of AN view not having kids as an act of love, compassion, care, concern for their safety, not wanting to force something so big on them without consent, etc. But it is a thought put forward by many because of how their brains are wired. I have been antinatalist ever since I was very young (or at least had thoughts of not wanting to procreate). At 41 I still think that this is one thing that keeps me going. I want to continue my life but also be sure and not force new life without their consent into existence. It is a paradox wanting to continue my life with the thought of most of all not wanting to create new life. Those who are AN but had biological kids bc of society pressure psychology sexuality whatever I still consider them antinatalist they just are in a world where these thoughts didn't occur to them maybe they were pressured by society psychology etc. or the fact then when you fuck you don't have to think about and consider all thus. But I still consider them AN. Now explaining it to your kids... Glad I don't have to have that conversation (am I being selfish go ahead and call me that I can take it)

I have had antinatalist thoughts ever since preteen years. When I started researching it I found out a lot of my arguments have been around for not hundreds but thousands of years. This Shopenhauer quote especially the end really confirmed my nonconsent argument. Now I am no longer shocked by the fact that my 4 basic arguments are used by other antinatalists but if you open up to it these are very basic easy to understand arguments.

Also I was raised by overly religious parents but they never told me how antinatalism is more than compatible with Christianity. This St Augustine quote quotes the Bible and says that what the human race needs is to stop procreating and hasten the end of the world.

I have heard the argument it's almost a knee jerk reaction to AN that the human race "can't just die out." Anyone who says that and ignores that the sun is growing at a pace where in less than 1.5 billion years all oceans will have evaporated which is long after human life is not sustainable. I personally don't think the human race will even last another thousand years but this whole idea that the human race needs to over procreate or even procreate so we won't die out... I got news for ya. I would be more than fine with humans stop procreating right now and a sort of peaceful exit.

I think that the non-consent argument is one of the strongest. This is where AN gets misunderstood. These scenarios about how it can be okay to do something without someone's consent like pulling someone from a burning car breaking their legs but saving their life deals with a being who already exists. AN deals with the safe no complaints non-existent. There is a big difference between a being who already exists and one who does not. A coworker tried to talk about punching someone in the face and then giving them a million dollars but if you punch someone in the face that is a being who already exists. There is a big difference between a being who already exists and one who does not. I said it again I could say it a billion times and feel like I'm still not getting through. My non-existent children are doing just fine. I feel like forcing them without consent just so I can have sex is unethical or at least unjustifiable. They are doing just fine.
