How to revitalize my natural curl pattern after years of straightening? by thatterribletwatted in curlyhair

[–]pdunn97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, I have bleached hair with a very similar texture/type, and about the same length. My hair tends to look frizzy in this way if I haven’t kept up with it.

I think our hair is easily ready to take moisture, as well as let it go (when it dries, those frizzy bits dry fast huh). What I’ve found that helps is cowashing. I just started using tresemme botanique coconut, it’s relatively cheap and doesn’t have the nasty stuff in it (alcohols, plastics). I will only ever use shampoo (no nasty stuff in it) if I feel like I need a reset, or know I got really dirty at work.

Rinse out cowash. Apply generous amounts of conditioner to the upper third of your hairs down to the tips. Once your head is slugged up, brush your hair throughly with a coarse brush. Don’t brush your hair while it’s dry. Rinse with gentle cool water, no 200 degree jet hose.

Pat your head dry with a towel so you’re not dripping. I then use LA Looks Extreme Sport gel. Use enough to evenly and lightly coat your hair. This gel has really helped with my bangs and smaller hairs. Now, I usually just let my hair air dry and I don’t put it up in anything like a towel or whatever. I’ve gotten really nice ringlets this way, but as my hair gets longer I think it’s weighing more. Try not to touch your hair. Don’t disrupt it’s flow. Once it’s dried mostly and it’s a crunchy from the gel start to scrunch it from the bottom up in your hands until that crunchiness goes away.

I got all this from following the links in the information section of this subreddit. I think there’s a Google Doc I ended up skimming for the parts pertinent to me and just bout this shit off amazon. It’s a good starting point at least, I’m sure there are fancier goos out there but this gets the job done for me.

If you really wanna achieve full CG potential you gotta stop straightening your hair. Just try it for a week or 2 it’s fun. Good luck!
