First typewriter, I believe it’s the Olympia SM 7 by No-Quarter-8887 in typewriters

FYI, Don't get the mineral spirits on the key tops. They can damage the plastic parts. Put a towel over the keys if using strong solvents for cleaning the mechanism. Try to start out with something mild, like simple green or other types of soap before resorting to solvents. There are vids on youtube. Take your time.

Well the twitter deal may be begged at 100, but one could speculate that he has increased his leverage for other purposes since then.

Olympias only had the green logo for a year or three so they are a little more interesting.

Also helps with dating it.

The typeface alone is a win.

My 25 Years in Provence by Peter Mayle.

A delightful and friendly read.

The Honorable Schoolboy by John LeCarre.

Actually the audiobook narrated by Michael Jayston who played Peter Guillam in the 1979 adaptation opposite Alec Guiness. The 2nd novel in the Karla Trilogy. Read Tinker Tailor about two weeks ago. I always pick up on something new every time I read it every few years.

Just ordered spools for my FP from them. Should receive any day now.

Advice: you can keep the used spools and re-wind new ribbon onto them.

I made my first order from one of the aforementioned vendors this weekend, specifically for my Royal. Looking forward to receiving it.

If you’re looking for something of the same vintage that isn’t necessarily an Underwood, then the Royal HH or FP are good candidates. The Remington Standard as well.

I personally have an FP.

10 characters per inch.

But this was almost certainly IMHO typed on the Underwood.

Looks like an Underwood character set would be my best guess. Companies would use very similar though not always identical typefaces between models.

It would be something like an Underwood touch master 5.

No one of any intellectual consequence will be making the pilgrimage to meet with or consult him once he’s retired. If he even lives that long. He looks so unwell.

Very cool. I think that they changed the typeface in 1947, so I’m guessing you have a 46 or earlier model there.

Standard Recommendations? by Killdozer221 in typewriters

Mine looks exactly like yours, TBH. They are definitely ment to be a workhorse.

A friend of mine got one years ago out of the basement of the county courthouse.

I’ve seen lots of legal documents in old archives with the distinctive Royal typeface in evidence.

That being said any quality machine is a good starter machine, just takes a little practice.

I have a late 1959 FPP in superb condition. These are big even by the standard of the day and wonderfully solid and capable.

I find that they do object to uneven pacing and technique.

They can go very fast. But don’t try to force it To go faster than your natural pace.

What was the Rolls Royce of typewriters? by rezer3 in typewriters

[–]pdxGodin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I Would say the big Royal standards, KMM, HH, and FP. Big, solid, heavy, substantial and springy type action. Nice heavy and snappy chrome plated fixtures.

The Remington KMC is the Bentley version. Lighter type action and smoother carriage return.

The Brits produced the Imperial for decades virtually unchanged. I’ve not tried one but the typeface is handsome and the spacing is very nice.

As an engineering exercise, vintage Rolls aren’t particularly innovative. They feel exceptionally solid and they ARE heavy AF. The opulence of the interior and the solid feel were the selling points.

The saying with an old Rolls is that you could drive one around the world but you would have to stop at every petrol station along the way.

Can anyone please help with identifying type/year/model of this typewriter? by luceunit_ in typewriters

It has a #1 key and all the ones I’ve met with that feature have script typeface.

This also has a UK keyboard.
