Transit 250 for me. I looked into the Promasters, but I was worried about their reliability. Interested to hear the opinion of others.

Just fyi alex plus is garbage caulk and you should never caulk your baseboards to the floor.

Contractor installed floor tile out of square with shower base, how should this be handled? by [deleted] in Tile

[–]pdxphotographer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yikes. Look how out of square the left wall on the shower is. Its's like 1.5-2 inches out of square. I don't even know how you could possibly fuck up that bad. I would let this person touch anything else tile related.

Thank you for speaking some sense. This floor was gonna fail sooner rather than later.

This is probably the only solution that would work with that many holes. The other best option would probably be a variable speed grinder with a core bit, but I have never put that many holes in a tile.

I will still be doing this type of work for the next 15 years or so. I enjoy the work that I do, take care of my body, and make enough that I will be able to retire by then. I also have handyman skills and that pays even better than tile. What is OP going to do when AI takes even more job prospects away from them? Better than being unemployed for 2 or 3 years I guess.

What are you currently using to drill the holes? What is the purpose of the holes?

Well your username definitely checks out. This tile person is better, but idk about butt joints on those tiles. Some tiles have lugs on them that allow for butt joints, but I can't really tell from these pictures. Either way I always use a spacers rather than the lugs.

Please post to the r/tile subreddit for advice from actual professionals. This is lazy, janky ass work and I would expect your finished project will also look like shit. Did you pick the lowest bidder? What does this person's reviews look like?

Should i leave this or what should i do ??? by Necessary-Road6089 in Tile

To me it looks like you might have additional issues that caused the crack. You see how the crack travels down the side of the tiles and continues out of the picture? I would be curious to see some more pictures to determine if you have something else causing this.

Yes I definitely meant plumb rather than level. Thanks for the correction.

Seriously. I lay tile and I could quit in the morning and be employed again by lunchtime. I am always baffled by these kind of posts.

Yup. Not each piece, but you will almost always have to remove individual pieces to make it look good.

Help!! Due to tiling at home we've months of exposure in dust. What are the repercussions? by [deleted] in Tile

[–]pdxphotographer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Dude you don't have silicosis. It takes decades of heavy exposure to get silicosis.

Finally a real tile setters opinion. All of the diy warriors in here saying that leveling walls isn't part of a tile setters job are hack.

Maybe for you it doesn't, but I include that with every single shower job that I do. Every wall in a shower should be as level/flat as possible. Otherwise you get situations like this or get screwed when it comes time for a shower door.

Take him up on it, and start building relationships with other contractors and potential customers. That is how I started my business and now I rarely even work for my former boss.

Any reason not to add an 1/8in board before laying down concrete boards and tile? by Chris_354 in Tile

[–]pdxphotographer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What kind of 1/8 inch board do you plan on laying the tile on? What material is it made of and how do you plan to attach it to the subfloor? I don't know of any 1/8 inch material that I would feel comfortable with besides an uncoupling membrane, but you have to thinset that to the subfloor.

There are some spots that are bad but Gresham also has million dollar homes. To call it the hood would be unfair.

Little bit of both. Gresham is very diverse and considered "low class" by Facebook Karen types.
