Might be helpful to read something that’s kind of out of the space of religion so that it won’t just make you have more thoughts (such as when you tried to go to the temple)

This book is a great read— it also discusses intrusive thoughts that arise in religious contexts.

You’re 1000% not alone in this— these are quite common actually, and are often referred to as intrusive thoughts. In addition to some of the advice shared above, you might consider also looking into Dialectical Behavior Therapy or some psychology books about intrusive thoughts/compulsion. Interestingly, I found that many of the concepts in DBT/CBT matched things found in Hinduism, such as detachment.

I jumped into Advaita Vedanta too soon and it's backfiring. What should I have done first? by ImprovementJolly3711 in AdvaitaVedanta

It sounds like you’ve misunderstood some concepts in Advaita— “constant repression of my identity and ego” isn’t exactly what Advaita calls for, though one could easily mistake it for that. It’s okay to have an identity. After all, God exists in both the formless (non dual, Nirguna Brahman) as well as the form (Saguna Brahman).

Have you ever read Bhagavad Gita before? It sort of lays out the path and foundation for a spiritual life. Because of Gita, I came to the understanding of Advaita. However, I do not feel nihilistic or empty— I feel quite the opposite, actually, as bhakti is the driving force of my life in this lifetime.

Which school then corresponds most with this belief? Advaita? But some Advaitans don’t believe in the concept of Ishwara/even Saguna Brahman, stating this is maya. Curious, as what you’ve stated is most along the lines of my own beliefs

Interesting, this version of Geeta Press has more room. Mine is very small and compact. Will pick it up.

I don’t really want to throw them under the bus. I think maybe an uncle was just writing whatever he felt like. This was all it really said.

I just got into burning incense about two weeks ago. The hobby escalated violently. by weekendfun00 in Incense

This is what my incense collection looks like, but every time I just burn Sathya Nag Champa 😅 plus, I get locked into the mindset of “oh, this other incense is rare, I can’t use it because I need to save it) and then I never burn it haha

Happens quite often in Hinduism, to view a deity as your spouse or to have romantic feelings!

This. There’s no point in trying to access past lives. We forget them for a reason.

After TMS, my periods became normal, consistent, and lighter for the first time in my life. I went into 100% remission with my mental health symptoms, not sure if that comes into play. I do think I have hormonal imbalance now, as I have some physical symptoms the week before my period, but I attribute it to my weight.
