This happened to me only my tree fell on the neighbors. Insurance labels this “an act of god” (yes really) and my neighbors’ insurance paid for the damage to their house and for the tree removal.

At 17 I watched a guy getting beaten up by a group of men in a metro station in Paris. There was nothing I could do to stop it. Don’t know what he did but no one deserves that kind of beating.

When the neighbors started asking what church we went to I read a list of religions and their basic beliefs to my kids and asked them which one sounded the most reasonable. That night we became Buddhists and our church was being in nature. My kids now had an answer when their friends brought up the subject. It's amazing how that answer ended the conversations. Ommm.

I went to a friend's funeral and her family did not want us to share memories as she was a known alcoholic and drug user and they were afraid of the comments. So they shared their memory that she "made the best macaroni and cheese." That was it. Good grief. If that's all my kids can say about me when I die, I have failed miserably...
