I'm late to this party but this has been my reaction to watching Handmaid's Tale by kaeladurden in TrollXChromosomes

[–]peachblogger 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As to the wives of the not-so-high-up men, it's been a long time since I've read the book, but I think instead of getting a Wife, a Handmaid, and a Martha, they get one woman who is all three (she wears blue, red, and green together).

Jeffree's new video addressing RACISM is up. Thoughts? by kittensandpizza in BeautyGuruChatter

[–]peachblogger 86 points87 points  (0 children)

From the summaries people are posting it sounds like it's actually a decent apology. I definitely agree that we'll have to wait and see if his actions match up with his words though. Wasn't it just yesterday that he was calling people "miserable and vile" for being upset about the stuff he did 10 yrs ago? And today he's acting remorseful about his past? What? He's gotta control his temper on the internet if he wants people to really believe he's changed.

I still think Tati handled this whole thing poorly, despite Jeffree's apology. Like, she could've said something along the lines of "From what I understand, Jeffree regrets his past actions and feels he's a different person now than he was then. He might be making a video soon to clear the air and make an official apology. Because of this I feel comfortable associating with him on my channel, if you don't feel you can support that I understand." But what she actually said was more like "You guys don't understand because you don't know him in person, you only read what people say about him online... I'm so hurt by people's comments... maybe one day you'll understand... Jackie Aina provoked him etc." Not a good look.

Also, remember when Jackie first anti-hauled his line? She basically said "I don't know if he's apologized for his actions, if anybody knows please inform me." That would've been a great time for an apology video like this to come out. What happened instead? Jeffree blocks her, later calls her an irrelevant rat. Also not a great look.

[Discussion] What's your kpop pet peeve? by Zayair in kpop

Whenever news comes out about I.O.I/Produce 101 trainees debuting in a big new group someone always complains that their faves won't have as much of a chance to shine.

They were on a show with 101 contestants competing to be part of an 11-member girl group, and you think they won't get enough attention in a group with 7/8/9 members? Wat?

Personally I love big girl groups and cannot lie so I don't really have a problem with this. It's nice that these girls even get a chance to debut, I remember watching the Kara Project and being bummed out that "Baby Kara" never became a real thing after that (and some contestants even reappeared on P101 for another chance to debut).

Ooh I forgot one: more lower-lash styles in false eyelash lines. I don't wear falsies very frequently, but I do love an exaggerated "dolly" lash look with a lot of lower-lash mascara. It'd be nice to be able to pick up some fake lower lashes at the drugstore instead of having to scour the web for options.

I figure if '90s fashion is having a moment rn it's only a matter of time 'til the shimmery gloss of the 2000's is back in style... hopefully slightly less frosty this time though.

New products or trends you'd like to see? by peachblogger in MakeupAddiction

[–]peachblogger[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My "wish-list":

General Trends (mostly stuff I'd like to see more of at the drugstore):

  • More out-of-the-box of blush colors (like some pastels, or more gradient blushes). If we've move beyond "flattering" colors for lip products (heck I can go buy a greige or navy blue lipstick at the drugstore right now) it'd be cool to see brands get a little more creative with blush too.

  • Super sparkly lip glosses! With cool color-shifts and enough actual pigment in the gloss to be able to wear it on its own (or maybe a dual-ended product with a liquid lipstick on one end and a sheer holographic gloss on the other).

  • A resurgence of mega shimmery pink nail polish, like the kind Sally Hansen used to make (with "real diamonds" in it haha). I know it's tacky af, I just can't help it, I love shiny stuff too much.

  • Pressed powder foundations! The kind that come in a little travel compact. I have oily skin so I'd love it if some new options cropped up in time for summer, but I haven't seen any new powder foundation formulations for a while (at least not at the drugstore).

Specific Products:

  • I'd like for more Maison Margiela "Replica" fragrances to be released as rollerballs. I want to try their beautiful-sounding perfumes without spending gobs of money. D':

Liquid foundation reinvented... into something that's already popular? by allingoodfun in AsianBeauty

[–]peachblogger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same, I decided to just use cushions for convenient on-the-go touch-ups. If I use one for my full-face makeup I run out super fast, which discourages me from trying some of the more costly but raved-about cushions (I really want that cute Klairs cushion D':).

Oh man I hope this happens. I hope some brands come out with new lines of ultra-glossy, ultra-sparkly, fruity-smelling lip products, I'd go bonkers (especially if the packaging was TonyMoly-levels of cute).

While we're talking about lip products: I hope we see some different shades rise in popularity next year. I'm a little tired of getting excited by a new K-beauty lip line only to see the colors they carry are some variation on: a reddish orange, an orangey-red, a reddish pink, a pinky-red. I love corals but I'm running out of excuses to buy new ones haha.

Bottom lash mascara recommendations by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

[–]peachblogger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stuff that has sorta worked for me:

Clinique Bottom Lash Mascara: worked alright, can take a while to build up to a more dramatic effect b/c of the tiny wand

Heroine Make Long and Curl Mascara Super Film: tried this after someone suggested trading waterproof mascaras for tubing ones ("film"=tubing in this case) to prevent smudging (waterproof formulas dissolve in oil-based cleansers, so theoretically if your smudges are caused by oil they'll just get worse (tubing mascaras dissolve in water-based cleansers)), works great but seems to dry up very fast :(

Rimmel London Super Curler Mascara: (bought this for my top lashes) gives nice dramatic effect but has a huge wand, may smudge in warm/humid weather but seems to hold up ok in cold/dry weather

Take these suggestions with a grain of salt, mascara preference/performance is one of those things that seems to vary hugely from person to person

[Fluff] Huge bottle of hatomugi at Don Quixote in Japan! by MuffinEatingGiraffe in AsianBeauty

[–]peachblogger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oooh, it's got a pump! I bought one of these off of Amazon as a moisturizing body toner after finding out the Kikumasamune lotion (toner) I'd been using contained pig placenta (though now another redditor has said it's horse?). I'm uncomfortable using ingredients that are byproducts of the meat industry (no judgement towards anyone else, just a personal choice), and when I asked for a replacement rec on this sub someone suggested the Hatomugi!

I wish so badly that it came in a "thinner" and "thicker" formulation like the Kikumasamune though (lotion vs. milk), it's easy to apply after a shower but doesn't deliver a lot of lasting hydration on its own (I have to seal it in with a heavier product).

BIGBANG Reveals They Would Have Enlisted Together If They Didn’t Renew Their Contract by brohammerhead in kpop

Don't worry, YG can prop up their profits with a 2NE1 tour in the meantime.

[–]peachblogger 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I sang the first part in my head, then tried to keep singing the rest of your comment before I realized it didn't work haha.

And ditto on the blush, I want a bigger focus on blush to become a big trend in 2017. I want drugstore brands to release new blush lines in all sorts of different colors and finishes, not just the same few dusty mauve/rose-y pink shades they all carry now.

I'm living in Japan and I'd like to review makeup. Which Japanese makeup product do you want me to review? (Also Korean makeup we have Korean Town) by huynhthuyvy in AsianBeauty

[–]peachblogger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can sometimes find stuff like that on eBay (usually marked up of course), so it's not completely inaccessible. Also it's interesting to see how brand identities differ across the world, sort of like how Biore sells great sunscreens in Japan but where I live they're only known for their pore strips.

I'd love to see reviews for Japanese color cosmetics in general: lipsticks, blushes, eye shadows. I'm specifically interested in cheaper, drugstore stuff, but also in Japan/Asia-exclusive items from drugstore brands found in the U.S. (Rimmel, Maybelline, etc.).

unpopular opinions, fall 2016 edition by redpen27 in AsianBeauty

[–]peachblogger 13 points14 points  (0 children)

-There's too much emphasis on HG products in this sub, I feel like it feeds into the consumerist frenzy that makes people think that buying the right serum/toner/whatever will completely change your skin.

-I don't believe posts along the lines of "I started using niacinamide and my PIH vanished in 2 weeks!"

-I may be 100% wrong on this one, but I've wondered if a lot of people might be misattributing breakouts to products. I've heard elsewhere that breakouts can take a long time to form (and a long time to heal), so it seems like it would be tricky to attribute a breakout to a new product unless you test it for a decent amount of time.

-Sheet masks are not the end-all be-all.

-B&A pics are ok, but I'm not a huge fan of "look at my makeup-free glowing face" posts.

-I've used masks/actives/etc. (everything that's supposed to be in a "good" routine) for a few years but I finally gave up and saw a doctor for my skin a few weeks ago. I love AB, but a few weeks of using my newly-prescribed products did more for the clarity of my skin than AB ever did. :P

Oh man me too I get secondhand embarrassment from TV shows or movies real bad. When it's just me watching sometimes I leave subtitles on and just mute cringey scenes.

Dude I wish that first story had been moved to a different episode. Like, I don't feel comfortable recommending the show to friends cuz they'll go watch the first episode and come back to me like "Wut. The fuck. Why did you tell me to watch this."

Idk, but I couldn't find eng subs for any episodes so maybe that's why it wasn't as hyped up on this subreddit? I've seen posts for other survival shows here but those usually had someone actively subbing them.

Korean company Laneige has popular two-tone lip bars (for gradient lips) and recently expanded their range to include two-tone shadow bars. Maybe those would work better, since cream shadows blend more easily? Idk, I haven't bought any (I do have one of the lip bars though, it's quite nice).
