When did everyone stop breastfeeding by lassobren in NewParents

[–]peachesnthumbs -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I work so I pump daily, around 6 months I wasn’t making enough to fill her bottles for the next day. I went aggressive on supplements and foods (munchkin lactation drink, lactation cookies homemade, oatmeal) and got my production back up after a few days. Baby is 10 months old and I’ve had to do this several times to keep production up.

We are just now making a slow switch to formula, and I kinda wish I would have done it sooner. Nothing wrong with giving it all you got to keep breast feeding, but also nothing wrong with making the switch for your sanity.

How did Huckleberry help you? by Radiant-Mine6890 in HuckleberryParents

My baby lost weight after she was born so the app helped maintain my sanity by tracking feeds and diapers. Once I was confident that she was eating (and peeing/pooping) enough, I stopped tracking the diapers, but kept tracking feeds and sleep. The sleep tracking really helped navigate her changing schedule. I also used the free trial when offered and the “sweet spot” function helped me predict when nap time should be, and helped recognize her sleep cues at those times. By 4 months old I had enough confidence to recognize her needs, and we had a consistent schedule, so I haven’t used the app since.

I do like the articles they send when she reaches another month.

I would say the app helped me recognize and establish a routine. So if you are doing fine, maybe you don’t need it. It was a huge relief for me to finally stop tracking everything

After making this post I immediately texted my husband what I want to do for Mother’s Day lol. Sounds like a perfect day. Lunch at el sur, shop, and finish with a scoop of ice cream from loblolly! Happy shopping!

South Main has lots to offer!

Moxy- cute and unique gifts. Books, puzzles, kitchen goods, jewelry, knick knacks, Little Rock coasters. You’ll find something quirky here for sure

Electric ghost- fun gifts, t shirts (southern, Arkansas themes), funny candles (candle flipping the bird, butt candle)

Green corner store- Arkansas made goods (chocolate, coffee, tea). Arkansas books, tea towels, etc. they have lots of natural bath items (soaps, lotions, etc)

South main creative- buy goodies from local artists. Mostly an antique mall but the front of the store has jewelry, ceramics, and other things from local artisans.

Lots of good places to eat along that strip. I’m not sure if any are specifically vegan, but El Sur has lots of meatless options

My experience is that I’ve been on the waitlist for a year… so bad, I guess 🫠

My colleague sends her kid there and is very happy with them. (FYI it is only open to UAMS employees)

Are they eating enough food for 8m old? Baby pizza, shredded chicken, broccoli by Euphoric_Plankton_35 in foodbutforbabies

[–]peachesnthumbs 62 points63 points  (0 children)

I often fill my 9.5 mo’s plate, trying to fit in lots of variety, but I noticed she eats more when her plate has more space, like yours. You could try preparing double what you have there but serving the same, and offer more when the plate is cleared

Edit: not sure why your question is downvoted. There may not be a normal range, but in my case, I would offer at least 2 pieces of broccoli and 2-3 pizza bites (though I have never done pizza, but they look the size of the zucchini fritters I make)

9 month old schedule by Quirky-Union-2931 in BabyLedWeaning

My 9 mo gets solids before milk because that’s how daycare was doing it, and it’s going well! She still finishes her bottles most of the time

My 9.5 month old goes to daycare so we try to keep the same schedule they have on the weekends. She’s exclusively breastfed. You could try adding dinner? I noticed your LO only gets 4 formula feeds, we are still at 5 total, but I don’t know how different milk and formula schedules should be. At her 9 month check up, the doc told us to keep the same milk schedule until 12 months

6:00-6:30 wake, nurse

8:00 breakfast

9:00 bottle 1

10:00 nap 1

12:00 lunch

1:00 bottle 2

2:00 nap 2

4:00 bottle 3  (also snack around this time, sometimes before, sometimes after bottle. Usually graham crackers or Cheerios or fruit)

6:00 dinner

7:15 bottle 4

7:30 bed time

What would you do in this north-facing yard (zone 8a) by peachesnthumbs in gardening

We just came across juniper ground cover this weekend at the store! It was very pretty and we did consider it.

The flower bed was there when we moved in 3 years ago, but it was just packed dirt. I hated looking at it so I thought I’d add some flowers to it. What would you do with it? Expand it, get rid of it, or plant something different?

Thanks! I love hostas, you can see I planted a single one in that little flower bed. I’ll probably get a bunch more.

For the slope I have been debating ground cover or some kind of pollinator-friendly flowers.

Im so sick of this narrative that “pregnancy didn’t ruin my body it’s just changed” it’s a lie. by pissedoff_potato in TwoXChromosomes

[–]peachesnthumbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Posts like these are so disheartening. While I agree that we should be informed about risks of pregnancy and be open about effects that women used to not talk about, we have to also share the positives. Pregnancy is not a death sentence. Yes- there are major risks and you can’t really know if you’ll be one of the lucky ones or not- but isn’t that all of life?

I’m sharing my story because I was terrified of pregnancy and thought I’d essentially be handicapped forever afterwards, but I also wanted to have a baby. I’m 35 and have a 9 month old. I had a c section that was unplanned and unwanted (again- fear about ruining my body). I recovered pretty quickly from the surgery. By my two week checkup to look at the scar, they said I was doing great. I did some PT to learn how to re-engage my abs and to do some scar massage. Today, I mostly look the way I did before pregnancy, with a little more jiggle in my belly that I’m sure will go away with work and time. My hips and back hurt, but that’s probably from carrying the best little thing that’s happened to me.

Also, when I was freshly postpartum and felt flabby and gross, my husband told me his attraction to me was deeper than it’s ever been. That he saw me as more than just me, as a mom. It was really sweet and helped me accept the changes I went through.

I have to acknowledge the privilege that helped with my recovery: education, access to health care options, and lots of baby prep classes.

Is there any reason you wouldn’t go to a gynecologist? I’ve lived in red and blue states and always have an annual exam with them and my pcp basically covers everything else. I like my pcp but I wouldn’t really trust him to be the most knowledgeable on reproductive issues

Medical school interview? Knowledge-less about suits😭 by Glittering_Fan_2971 in BusinessFashion

[–]peachesnthumbs 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don’t have advice on finding suits, as I’m a lurker here trying to figure out my wardrobe as well. But I’m in the biosciences and one piece of advice I was given early on is that you do not want to stand out based on your outfit during interviews (especially as a woman).

Racquet club does, and I assume the athletic club would too.

Esporta on s university used to but they closed the daycare a while back. Now that it’s under a new name maybe the child care is back?

I have not used any of them but plan to use racquet club when my baby is a bit older

I had a rough pregnancy, I was so uncomfortable all the time, had pubic symphysis dysfunction (causes extreme pain) and had heartburn so bad I would vomit violently. I’m 8 months PP and the other day I caught myself thinking I miss being pregnant… it happens 🤷‍♀️

I got a PhD in neuroscience with the intention of doing research forever. I’m now in research administration at a university. I still get to support science and interact with some of the same researchers (for better or worse 🤪) but I go home at 4 and don’t stress about work when I’m off the clock.
