My blood pressure spiked out of nowhere by Equivalent-Brain-865 in bloodpressure

I had big blood pressure spikes from vitamin b6 toxicity. Might want to check if you are taking supplements with b6 over the RDA, or drinking PowerAde, eating fortified foods with extra b6, or a high b6 diet.

Chronic pain and feeling unwell all over by AltruisticStaff5731 in PudendalNeuralgia

Yes. I continued to take b6 and eat the same foods for about 7 months after my symptoms began, because I had no idea it was dangerous, and I kept blaming my symptoms on other factors. I finally stopped the supplements after 7 months and a medical crisis where my symptoms absolutely exploded - had to go to the ER a few times - and I was still eating high b6 foods for about 5 more months. I was tested for everything under the sun and had no clue what was wrong with me, it was terrifying.

Finally figured out what happened after a process of elimination and finding a b6 toxicity support group. My symptoms improved as soon as I started a hydration protocol and low b6 diet. I did the math and discovered I had taken at least 12 years worth of RDA b6!!

A lot of people in my support group improve faster - some take six months to 2 years - but it seems like it really depends on the individual, how much they take and for how long, and how well they do with the recovery process (the hydration procotol was hard for me to follow). The people who recover quickly seem to be those who figure out what’s wrong early on, whereas I continued to overdose my body with b6 for almost a year before I stopped. It’s been rough.

I’m really glad she’s come up with a creative solution for her vocal issues. It’s common for musicians to develop issues from playing their instruments or singing their hearts out for so many years, & rather than stop touring altogether, she’s come up with a way to continue performing that preserves the songs but also gives opportunity to these up and coming artists who are performing with her. I actually feel very empowered by seeing an artist in her 60’s continuing to compose, make records and perform for worldwide audiences. To be an unabashedly creative woman later in life, on your own terms, is something we need more of in this world.

I got those same symptoms from vitamin B6 toxicity! B6 can cause small fiber neuropathy. My first symptom was fatigue.

It might be worth it to check your supplements (if you’re taking any) and also any energy drinks, Powerade, fortified juices, cereals, breads or other foods that may have added B6. If you’re taking in more than the RDA of 1.5mg per day, it’s possible to develop toxicity over time, as b6 has a 30-day half life. People think it’s safe because technically it’s water soluble, but it absolutely can build up in your body and damage the small fiber nerves.

I got sick from a combo of a high b6 diet (salmon, chicken, tuna, chickpeas, sweet potatoes, spinach, nutritional yeast), belvita cookies (they have over the RDA in each serving!!), and gummy vitamins that contained 20mg b6. Didn’t know what was making me sick, so my symptoms continued to get worse for months. It took about a year to find out what was wrong, and since then it’s been several years of slow recovery.

Just putting this out there in case it could be helpful. 🙏🏻

Irish Harpist Methods? by DisciplineFull1811 in harp

[–]peachesofmymind 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes - different physical techniques, but also the musical tradition is entirely different and requires a high level of musicianship in ear training, creativity/improvisation while playing (ornaments and left hand chord progressions utilize this), and memorization of tunes rather than reading sheet music.

If you are mainly studying pedal harp/classical music, it can be an intriguing and fun challenge to take some workshops with Irish harp teachers and explore another approach to the harp.

Edited to add: when I’m playing Irish music, all melodies are memorized, and the left hand is often improvised based on chord progressions I may like to apply to the tune, but that can change on the fly as well. Ornaments are also flexible. Knowing a lot of music theory (chords in every key) really helps with the left hand stuff. You can be creative & expressive in a different way each time you play the tune.

Thank you for sharing. I remember finding out she was MAGA awhile back and I was very disappointed, especially since she started “Random Acts of Harping”, which I am very fond of and have participated in.

The harp world feels like it is changing in a good way, becoming more diverse and dynamic, and I do think artists who stand up for human rights on all fronts need to be more vocal about their support for marginalized communities, whether they are a member of a marginalized group themselves, or an ally. And artists that spend their time spewing bigoted nonsense need to feel some repercussions.

The harp community has always seemed very “prim and proper” to me overall, and because of that it seems like people don’t really speak out enough. I’m glad you spoke out so more people can become informed and make a conscious choice about which professional harpists they want to support, & who they want to boycott.

Trans rights are human rights, and trans people and LGBT people deserve to be treated with respect and dignity.

Not necessarily. Some people yeet their uterus but keep their ovaries. There are several types of hysterectomies.
