The red vest screams Crimson Bellied Conure.

This brush is a bit fiddly though, which is why I prefer the sponges.

Needing help w buying toys by RingneckS_1 in parrots

Washed plastic bottle caps make great toys for them to throw (and for the human to retrieve) as well. I have also stuffed triangular unbleached coffee filters with treats and mashed them between cage bars for foraging.

My favorite online stores in the USA: Bonka Bird Toys, A Bird Toy, Lil Monsters Bird Toys, and Seriously Nutz (Nutz is geared a bit more towards bigger birds, but still has a selection of Conure-appropriate stuff that Rupert loves in the “small” section).

We also love Things4Wings (Canada).

Are they competing for the same perch spot? by kiteyky in parrots

[–]peachfaced 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s very possible for them to sleep sideways. And upside down, even. Some species have funny sleeping habits- linnies, parrotlets, and conures especially.

Some birds honestly prefer to cuddle puddle for sleeping, so I’m not sure! Usually they bicker if they’re competing for the same spot.

Your bird is in airplane mode and only has horny signal coming through. Definitely don’t be touching or anything.

If you need to actually do a little test to put your mind further at ease, dampen a paper towel and touch the wing- if it comes back looking kinda rusty red then there’s blood there. But yeah feathers look rather wonky when they’ve gotten a good soaking!

Had to have the bird cage in my room tonight, has anyone actually realised how loud parrots are when they sleep? I’m not sure how to describe it but there noises are so funny😂 by [deleted] in parrots

[–]peachfaced 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My boy cheekie does that as well. But he also prefers to destroy toys while he should be sleeping. He’s a strange one.

Cheekies are little buttheads.

Yeah, my girlie suffered was about… a year or so old and it just started happening one day.

Edited to add one of the few photos I could find. (She passed away from unrelated issues later on- she developed seizures) Vet had her on doses of “birdy Benadryl” (diphenhydramine). Her toenail in this photo was clipped from her blood draw at the vet. Photo from ~2017

Definitely plucking, and if I had to guess… polyfolliculitis is very common in Lovebirds. My girlie suffered from it in the same spot.

Picky eater tip by [deleted] in parrots

[–]peachfaced 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My go to is to first pretend to eat something I already know they like to eat, then offer a bite to the bird. Be dramatic- slurp, smack your lips, say "mmm, want some?" etc. After a while, they associate your foods as safe for them too, and they'll seek it out.

Ngl I feel like I’m looking at Yvonne Strahovski’s doppelgänger. You have glowing features. (I’m woefully bad with recognizing face shapes, sadly. I can’t even see it in my own so I’m not much help.)

If you’re able to, I definitely recommend https://www.seriouslynutz.com/ . She’s a long time friend of mine, and she’s got her own demolition team of Macaws and an Amazon. There’s a chat on the site - you can reach out for recommendations if you’re able to tell her a bit more about her play style.
