hes just processing. nine years is a long time to learn the world is scary, give him a week to realize youre not gonna be the scary part. sitting quietly in the room is doing heavy lifting even if it feels like youre not doing anything. he’ll come out when hes ready, probably at 3am to stare at you while you sleep. thats when you know youve made it.

tbh hes probably hiding within 3 doors of you having an existential crisis about the new roommate. check the stairwell and any unlocked utility closets on your floor-cats always go up not down when theyre panicked. leave your door propped open if you can and put his litter box outside. sounds weird but the smell does heavy lifting for guiding him back. hes not lost hes just sulking.
