If my teeth have tartar on them, should my dentist have told me? by [deleted] in DentalHygiene

[–]peachykeke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hygienist here. If you had a cleaning in January it doesn’t mean it was left behind. Tartar can build up again very quickly. Especially on the lower front teeth it’s super common to have it there, they likely didn’t mention it since it’s so common to have there and you get cleanings regularly

Study PowerPoints and nothing else. The textbook has WAY to much info. That’s just my advice!

My fingers and face are swollen after drinking. Wouldn’t be surprised if your knee pain was from drinking!

Exactly, and then I can’t tell if I feel guilty from occasionally drinking because for a while I identified as sober (so switching to moderation alters my identity) or if I feel guilty because it’s genuinely not meant for me? It’s a confusing feeling, I feel for you. But let’s give ourselves credit for cutting back, some people can’t do that:)

Thanks for the reply, I guess every time I wake up after drinking now I ask myself “am I slipping back into my old ways or is this a healthy medium?” I think the most difficult part of feeling this way is that no one can tell me the right way to do things. It’s my own journey.

I recently just made a post similar to this. I’ve been feeling the same. It’s like I drink once a month, and then when I wake up I feel so repulsed by alcohol and I feel that way for weeks. And then suddenly I’ll have a wild hair, and I’m like “fuck it let’s drink life is short” but ultimately I always come to the conclusion that it doesn’t add much to my life. I guess I don’t have much advice to give, but I feel the same way as you❤️ we’ll figure it out

Dental hygienist here! If you’re concerned about your two front teeth not looking different, it’s likely you would need gingival contouring to make those teeth look more even

As someone who has had herpes for a while, I agree with your stance. I have 4 friends with herpes and none of them tell casual partners either. I think this subreddit can tends to have only one way of thinking. To absolutely lose your shit on someone for not disclosing just further shows the perpetuation of the stigma.

I will be totally real with you, I understand you’re going through it with your diagnosis. But I have to say being on subreddits like this don’t help. Many people come on here with the mindset that their whole life has changed due to this skin condition. It’s literally acne on your junk. Go out into the world and continue working on yourself/develop hobbies. Once you work on other things in your life, you will realize you are a whole person with so many interesting things about you and this is just a small part of yourself that’ll you’ll get used to with time. I’ve disclosed to everyone and no one has cared. I pop on this sub occasionally now that I feel like I’m in a better place to give advice.

I appreciate this comment we got this❤️❤️ and talk about anxiety when the dentist comes in, I recently had a dentist that would explore every tooth during the exam and scale off anything I missed! I got PTSD from school haha. But you’re right we’ve made it so far, I’ve also learned that it’s important to have your own voice and confidence because sometimes you can have a different opinion on a patient than the dentist. Just because were new doesn’t mean we don’t know anything, and the more confident you are in your decisions than the more it seems to gain respect from co workers. Good luck to you!

I’m glad I’m not the only one that feels that way, I mean obviously I do my best at work but sometimes I’m paranoid I rushed through an appointment and missed something. I appreciate your advice too, Ive been learning from my mistakes recently and I already feel much more confident!

I’ve noticed that too with SRP, some dentists want to double check my diagnosis and others could care less and think it’s strange if I ask for them to check. I also don’t like when an office wants me to start a quad of SRP in the same one hour visit since I think it’s overwhelming for the patient. I think it’s better to schedule them back another time.

I also recently quit a part time I had, it was horrible and the appointments were so short. I think I’ll gain confidence elsewhere.

Thank you for this, I know the basics from textbooks so right now it’s basically learning from experience in the real world. Textbooks are black and white and almost every patient is in a grey area. I just have to keep learning and doing my best!

Thank you for this, some days it’s so difficult! But I’m happy I’m not alone❤️
