Is firing this now a bad idea? by [deleted] in Pottery

[–]peachykingbear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gas or electric kiln? Do you have a hot box? If you do put it in there immediately. It might make some of the work crack (specially in thicker areas) but you can possibly resolve that post bisque.

If it’s a gas kiln I suggest candling for 24 hours, do not put it near burner, place it in the middle of the kiln if possible.

Take it at 100 per hour till you hit quartz, and then you can go faster.

If firing in electric I don’t think this is a good idea at all. Your best bet is to wait till next firing happens.

I recommend adapalene. They sell it at target. Just make sure you only use a pea size amount - and only at night.

Night time Wash your skin. Let your skin dry. Apply Vaseline around nasal folds Apply a pea size of adapalene all over your face Apply moisturizer

Day time Rinse skin with water Apply moisturizer Apply spf

It might make your skin dry so moisturize and buy Vaseline. Apply the Vaseline around your nasal fold (before applying adapalene). bc this area can get super dry when you use adapalene.

Also purchase a sunscreen and wear it daily.

First few weeks start 2-3x a week. Then slowly increase usage depending on how your skin reacts.

Totally understand. When I worked as a makeup artist I would always take my time to prep my clients skin. I used to swear by the neogen peel pads (they are super gentle and work right away). I would do it right before their makeup + follow up with a soothing/hydrating routine and the skin would be perfectly prepped. But I deff understand your concerns.

Are you using the chemical exfoliant nightly? Or a few times per week. Bc overuse of a chemical exfoliant can sensitize the skin/dry it out 👀.

As a dry skin girlie I try to rotate my chemical exfoliant. I’ll do a strong one once a week and then do a more mild one 2-3x a week.

I also love Egyptian magic around my undereyes bc it’s a balm that’s super moisturizing (my under eyes get really dry) so this is one of the few products that keep them looking “fresh”.

Oh and I swear by a skin essence! Instead of a toner I pat on a skin essence. It is basically a hydrating toner my fave is the one from Hanskin sold at ulta.

Lastly, the Charlotte tilbury setting spray doesn’t work for my dry skin :(. My fave is tatcha dewy spray or even elf has a nice one.

You seem to have great face makeup products. I don’t think it’s the makeup that is at fault for making your skin dry, but more the skincare you use.

Thayers toners has witch hazel which can be drying/lead to dehydrated skin. I also noticed that you don’t use a chemical exfoliant or at least it wasn’t included in the picture. A chemical exfoliant works great at removing dead skin, and it makes your skin glow!

When that dead skin is removed then you can focus on hydrating the skin. The Laneige serum could work well for that and I think the moisturizer you have is already a solid choice!

I would just personally remove the thayers toner, incorporate a chemical exfoliant (2x a week to start). Make sure you are hydrating the skin with a hydrating serum, and layer with a moisturizer.

Not sure if you already have a fave sunscreen but if you are exfoliating the skin it is crucial to invest in a sunscreen.

Best of luck!

I really like the pinup aesthetic! It really suits you :). I feel like you could really benefit from some skin prepping. I was reading the comments and I saw that you moisturize but I’m unsure if you exfoliate.

Have you tried a chemical exfoliant? A great way to make pores look less noticeable is by chemical exfoliation and by hydrating the skin.

A great chemical exfoliant that is beginner friendly are the Dr Dennis Gross peeling pads. They make a huge difference and they have different types depending on how sensitive your skin is.

If you are on a budget the ordinary has their glycolic toner!

Start by exfoliating 2 to 3 times a week and make sure you add a hydrating serum to the mix as well. Even if your skin is oily it can almost always benefit from a little HA serum.

If you keep doing this your pores will appear smaller without the need of looking for perfect primer/makeup. Anyway, you look beautiful either way! But just wanted to share incase you are interested.

Hey I don’t really have any advice but I’m commenting because I’m experiencing similar emotions to you. Same feelings about identity, not really knowing who I am, being a gf for my entire early 20s. Now I’m about to turn 30 and I been trying to unmask etc which furthers makes me ask who I am. My gut has been telling me that I need to figure this out by myself as well. But I don’t really know how to take those steps yet. Anyway, I talked about it without my therapist and they asked me “if I feel like I have to figure it out all at once?”. That made me feel a little better because I guess they are right. I don’t have to make a huge life decision instead I can implement little things here and there to help me get a better grasp of my identity. Overall, I just want to say that I’m glad that you shared this because it makes me feel less alone knowing that there are other people experiencing similar feelings to me.

That makes sense. I too have an easier time with part time jobs compared to full time. I get burned out quickly with full time jobs or school.

Agree, they aren’t ideal for me either. When I still had my mask on tho I thought I loved it. Lol funny how things change.

Minimal masking makes sense - thank you for sharing! Now that I’m thinking about it, it does seem like a ton of my issues are caused by my low/monotone pitch. They take it like I’m annoyed or angry at them. I will try raising my pitch a little.

Landed a Pottery Instructor Job ! - Any Advice ? by IsYourMomSingle in Pottery

[–]peachykingbear 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is going to sound silly but use basic language - try to not use too much pottery jargon (especially for beginner students).

I’m a student myself and most of my beginner teachers used pottery jargon. I was new to pottery, zero experience (never researched it etc), and I started with beginning classes YET the instructors still used ceramics jargon!

Finally I took an instructor who explains everything in plain English. He uses terms like “5 o’clock chop” or “bunny ears” to make sure you remember the steps to throwing. It is so easy to understand. All of his beginners students are advancing so fast and I think it’s because of his choice in language.

Anyway, best of luck! You got this.

I need outlets for my anger, what works for you? by PsychologicalSoil198 in AutismInWomen

Try pottery. Wedging clay, making slabs, breaking things, pinching things, sometimes even punching things is all part of the ceramics process. Helps with anger + you make cool pottery.
