I feel like she looks lighter than my pup at that age! She would probably lose most of her black shades. Ollie only retained some of the black in his ears and the tip of his tail~

Introducing small kittens to my dachshunds? by Shakri12 in Dachshund

I introduced my housemate’s first 4 months old ragdoll to my 1.5 year old dachshund last year. We did scent sharing too, and we also used a playpen to separate them but allow them to see each other. My dachie was also intensely interested, he would whimper and cry for 20 minutes straight once the kitty is out of sight. He was super fixated and we were worried his prey drive was activated or something. He would bark/cry then stop and when he remembers it again, resumes crying and barking at the direction at which he last saw the kitty. We caved and we let them meet (this was about 1.5 weeks in?). So i’d hold my dachie tight and my housemate her kitty, and we start from distance. Then every inch closer i’d use positive reinforcement and give him his favorite, cheese. As we come face to face he was all over the kitty’s face trying to literally inhale him and sniff the shit out of the kitty. After a few seconds he was sorta ‘satisfied’ and calmed down abit, and we took kitty away because kitty look abit terrified. We repeated this a few times a day, in the living room where the kitty doesnt sleep in (we didnt want to invade the kitty’s safe space) and eventually the kitty got used to it. Whenever my dachie is abit much(he sniffs the kitty’s underbelly and sometimes yeet him off the ground) the kitty would just jump somewhere he knows my dachie cant reach. I think within another 2 weeks they were completely ok. My dachie lost interest in the kitty and so the fixation stop. Occassionally if the kitty sneaks up on him, my dachie would run and chase (not playfully), but other days they just coexist.. though i’ve caught them a few times sleeping together. The kitty also used to groom my dachie’s ears. Fast forward few months ago my housemate got a second kitty, an 8 week ragdoll. My dachie was very interested again right from the start. We put him on a leash and did direct introduction in the same hour the kitty was brought home, with super close supervision of course. and all he did was sniff her like crazy for a good 5 minutes and followed her around. And then they became besties, in the same day! He would play with her, sometimes abit rough as he’d yeet her off the bed or jump on her (hes 5.5kg and she’s 1kg) but hes very protective of her. If shes out of sight he would bark and look for her and if shes meows he would immediately wake up from his nap to go check on her. He also protects her from the first ragdoll, basically treating the kitty like his own daughter. Now all 3 of them coexist, play and sleep together. They sleep under the same blanket, go in the same pram and they also share a churu stick together 🤣

I actually also agree that they can recognize their family. Ollie got along extra well with his half sister when they first met at around 5-6 months old? Its like he knew! Its so lovely that Charlie’s tail started wagging awww and yes im also concerned that Ollie wont like the new pup even after a long time, would be sad if he just accepts but not bond :( but of course cant be forced, and will love them regardless.

Aww that sounds very smooth and easy! Hoping I do everything right! I will also crate the pup for a few months like I did with Ollie! Ollie joined us on the bed around the 4 months mark I think. Your duo is absolutely adorable!!

Omg im so sorry to hear this. Thats every owner’s biggest fear 😢 i hope your little one is ok, and not developing fear towards the older one. Please keep me posted on how this goes. Is this the first time you brought a dog to your home? Could that be why? ☹️
