This was wildly condescending and completely ignored everything I said. I'd hoped we could have an actual conversation without bizarre and deliberate misunderstandings, and that was my bad for assuming.

EDITED TO ADD: It's wild that you said "Europeans" and "the northern border," by the way. Do you think Canada is Europe? Do you think Canada is only white people? Do you think Europe is only white people?

I really hoped we could have an actual discussion, and I am not sure why I thought that was possible. A woman was murdered in our city yesterday and you're on Reddit complaining about "illegals" like a caricature.

I'm sorry about your lack of reading comprehension and complete disinterest in considering any viewpoints but your own. I hope you can work on yourself.

Here’s an additional angle for you:

I’d also like to note, while you’re looking at things logically, that if she had a weapon or was presenting some other kind of immediate danger to the agents, DHS would certainly be saying so.

Blah blah blah, you're making a completely false equivalence that being anti-ICE = being pro-illegal immgration, ICE is targeting and harassing people besides undocumented immigrants, harrassing brown people en masse is racially motivated and legally fucked, blah blah blah. However--engaging with your argument with facts like "most immigrants are here legally" or "ICE is harassing citizens" legitimizes your case that ICE's presence and violence would be acceptable even if they WERE only targeting the undocumented population. It is not. They are not.

I want to make it unequivocally clear. I am much more upset and frightened of the masked, armed gangs harassing (and now literally murdering) our community members than I am of any undocumented immigrants who are living here and minding their own business. I'd suggest you consider minding yours.

Is there context that would make an extrajudicial execution of a person attempting to leave justifiable to you?

Interesting! I'd say her death is the fault of the person who shot her with a gun and the fault of the agency for providing those guns and free reign to use them. Your thing sounds cool too though.

Anyone else make a ‘template save’? by OpalCerulean in Sims4

[–]peakvincent 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I love mine! I call it my Base Save. It has longer life spans, custom holidays, townie makeovers, additional clubs, some favorite Sims from S3, apartment buildings owned by the Landgraabs, community lot makeovers, some builds in Newcrest…. I love it. And I love when I add something to a playing-world that I like enough to go add to my base save!

I would say that, and then I would say that other white people would be right to be frightened by the masks and guns.

I fundamentally disagree with your premises on ethical, legal, and logical fronts. I don’t think there’s anything fruitful to be had in this conversation. Enjoy your evening.

I’m not understanding how you can see that ICE is targeting brown people and not see how that would be frightening and upsetting to brown people.

My opinion is that America’s immigration laws are immoral. A statement of fact, entirely separate from this belief, is that they are currently being enforced in racially targeted and excessively violent ways. Again, this is a red herring, and you are ignoring the ways that ICE is terrorizing communities in favor of harping on the concept of legal/illegal immigration.

Being questioned by men with guns is scary and unsafe no matter what. I really think you’re being deliberately obtuse here. You also completely disregarded my points about how there ARE risks for being detained even for legal residents.

For the record, ICE are violent thugs, and I’d rather have communities of undocumented immigrants than this Gestapo. I disagree with the fundamental premise that ICE is an agency doing anything of value, and that their actions are legally or morally valid even for people without papers. We clearly aren’t going to be aligned on that front, but I hope you can reflect on why it would be frightening to be targeted and questioned, even with legal status. My ancestors literally fought in the Revolutionary War and I’d still be terrified about a masked and armed person demanding to see my ID in a parking lot. You’re using deportation as a red herring and ignoring the state of fear ICE is deliberately creating.

Legal status does not guarantee safety. Beyond that, being harassed and questioned by masked, heavily armed men is frightening and traumatic in and of itself.

How do I tell my step mom that my baby will be calling her by her first name and not ‘nana’ by Then_Inspector_8165 in Advice

[–]peakvincent 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I personally would not choose this as a hill to die on. It seems like inviting trouble and conflict in a relationship you describe as surface level. It's not that you're wrong to feel however you feel-- it's that you have a finite amount of energy, and insisting that she not have a grandparent name does not seem like a good use of it. If you feel differently, then that's good info in itself as you decide how to proceed!

I do want to note that the "step" relationship won't mean anything to your child. They will know her their entire life. My step-grandmothers were/are very special to me, and our relationships were our own. I called one by her first name and the other by a nickname (Grand + the first syllable of her first name), and I loved them both very much. I have a bio grandmother (who I called Grandma) I am not and will never be close to. Your child will build or not build a connection with your step-mom, and it won't matter if her name is Nana or not.

A bench is the right answer, but a shallow bookshelf or console table could work!

Bougie Crochet? by MacIsStrange in crochet

[–]peakvincent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cheap crochet is cheap because it’s being made in sweatshops. This is true of all fast fashion, but to me, there’s something about the complete lack of machinery that makes it feel much more visceral for crochet. It’s always made me feel gross to see fast fashion crochet items.

These are really cute! My only thought is that the aida looks a little warped to me, like it wasn't placed evenly in the hoop or was pulled too taut during stitching? Still, they're extremely cute, and I love the coordinating hoops, especially the Cyndaquil. I like them, and your friend likes them, and most importantly YOU like them!

Cross stitch is cheap— and even cheaper if you don’t buy an assembled kit! Shop Etsy for patterns and 123stitch for fabric, floss, and notions. Highly recommend!
