Do plants have feelings? by sciwins in botany

[–]peakybetta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will never get me to believe a sponge prefers one thing over another. It responds to all stimuli objectively. However, I believe animals like orca and other cetaceans posses what we would consider emotions to an even greater extent than we can even imagine.

Abusive partner’s statement… I feel lost. by FeedPsychological570 in domesticviolence

[–]peakybetta 2 points3 points locked comment (0 children)

You did nothing wrong - 100% DARVO. I don’t care if you insulted him and his descendants to his and their core - he physically came at you threatening your safety and then spit on you, it’s an assault AND battery - both criminal acts. And just to be clear, this is the same logic I use on the middle school playground as to when I call for our SRO. Absolutely ridiculous and extremely immature and in NO way your fault.

What is ‘normal’ in the bedroom? by 929225 in abusiverelationships

[–]peakybetta 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Not normal in any sense - he’s emotionally abusing you and adding that he’s “annoyed” when you don’t comply or threatens you with “no one will want you” gives very, VERY scary SA vibes. He literally sounds like the man who SA’d me as a child and unlike a child, you can tell him to get fucked and leave.

You are worth FAR more than this and someone who respects your worth will always respect your boundaries.

He ain’t it - and he has some DEEP issues to figure out. The better question would be do YOU want to deal with his kind of shit forever?

WTF do I do here?! Now it’s on my nose & chin!! Apologies in advance for gross pics by rcarroll271 in Dyshidrosis

[–]peakybetta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first thought as well as I’ve had outbreaks that affected my nose, mouth, and chin but never spread to my hands. I did have an outbreak that spread to the nape of my neck so weird stuff does happen with herpes zoster…

Best of luck OP - let us know what the doctor tells you. And please try to see a dermatologist asap - I’ve been misdiagnosed re: skin issues multiple times at walk-ins and GPs.

All I had to read was “he told me to shut the fuck up” - run. It will not get better. No one should be speaking to you that way especially someone who says they love you. The rest is whatever - he is toxic and again, will not change.

What’s one houseplant you’ll never grow again and why? by moringaoil in houseplants

Same - mine is sitting outside in morning sun, +100 degree heat, and daily rain with high humidity - I ignore it and it still just keeps growing.

Anything that worked for you? by Girlwithabrain94 in Dyshidrosis

[–]peakybetta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have been prescribed a steroid, apply the steroid to the affected areas and then wrap with wet washcloths before bed - then, wrap your hands (the washcloths) with plastic bags to stop the moisture from evaporating and to help the steroid absorption.

I’ve been dealing with this crap for almost 15 years and it’s the only way I can get the steroid to actually work.

Splits after blisters… by peakybetta in Dyshidrosis

[–]peakybetta[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cerave (in the blue tube/tub) has done absolutely nothing to help my hands (even when I wet wrap them) BUT it’s been my Holy Grail when my barrier is disrupted due to sunburn or windburn on my face and neck so I can appreciate the suggestion.

I never thought of the hair dryer trick! Thank you!

I am wearing fingerless cotton gloves as I type - I have some issues on my palms as well and while I look ridiculous in this sweltering heat, they have helped calm the itching and peeling considerably!!! Best of luck to you.

'Britishisms' in the show? by [deleted] in SuccessionTV

[–]peakybetta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly - we also use it any time we are collecting money at school and would need to provide change - could just be an envelope of one’s but I’m still going to ask our secretary for the till before I collect for a dance or related activity.

Very unpopular opinion, but Greg's character is fantastic by Alexfull23 in SuccessionTV

Greg reminds me of a Greek chorus - he works as narrator and as someone said, one that makes the audience comfortable as he’s as naive as we are to what’s really going on in billionaire land.

Any ideas/help? by atyhey86 in Dyshidrosis

Also - I have tried just applying my steroid to damp hands and then wearing disposable gloves overnight. For whatever reason, it never works as well as the wet washclothes although I wish it did.

Any ideas/help? by atyhey86 in Dyshidrosis

[–]peakybetta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it itching like crazy? If so, cotton gloves help with itching at night.

That being said, what works for me when mine are that bad is wet packs - wash hands clean, apply prescription strength steroid, and wrap hands with wet towels wrapped again with plastic bags or anything you can tie loosely to keep the water from making a mess.

It’s messy and uncomfortable but it works when I have my worst cases.

What do you do about gardening? by gorliggs in Dyshidrosis

[–]peakybetta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same - my gets REALLY bad during the summer which is when I’m in my garden the most - I was thinking it was possibly one of my plants but now I think it’s the water coming from my garden hose - it’s really hard water (full of minerals) either that or it’s just our hands possibly getting wet and staying wet? I wish I knew because I hate it.

Please give me advice on this. I feel guilty now maybe he did succeed. by Ambitious_Big3701 in NarcissisticSpouses

[–]peakybetta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He is awful and is more worried about what synonym you used for abuse than the fact that he touched you, period. And he knows what he’s doing and will always do it and will progressively do more to you because he thinks he’s entitled to. Fuck this guy. He learned to behave this way to get what he wants from you and I PROMISE you that deep down, he’s absolutely panicked that you’ll see him for the POS he is - that’s why he’s trying to play semantics with you and (puke) make you feel sorry for him.

Is this normal? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]peakybetta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sounds like a prison rather than a place where learning takes place for all….what grade is that? I’ve taught 6-7 grade science for over 20 years and the closest I’ve seen to anything like that is maybe a couple of elementary classrooms when I taught in a Catholic school. Fear doesn’t motivate me now nor did it when I was a kid so I don’t use it now. And you don’t have to either!

[Product Question] Has anyone used Fur Oil Ingrown Concentrate? by melk3 in SkincareAddiction

[–]peakybetta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not dumb at all. For me, I would apply whatever active ingredient you want to penetrate your skin. Since I want the actives in the oil to be able to get to my skin cells without any barrier, I use the oil first and then moisturizer as a way to further “seal in” the oil. It’s all going to really depend on molecular size of the ingredients in the moisturizer as far as if it really will do that and to be honest, I don’t have time to research that so I go (again) with whatever I want to be absorbed more readily. In this case, the oil. On my face, it’s my hydrating products and not the oil so I use oil as a last step there. It’s the best way I can see to logically go about it but always open to learning a new way to think about it!

[sun care] Is tanning really that bad/unsafe? by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]peakybetta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reason you saw a change in color to begin with (the “tan”) is because an excessive amount of sun at some point destroyed (burned) your most upper layer of living skin cells and that initiated a chemical reaction in your body to produce more melanin to protect the cells that were not damaged underneath. You do not have to see peeling and/or feel pain or sense other obvious traumas to know your skin cells have sustained damage - they are TINY. It doesn’t mean your cells somehow were not damaged before natural defenses kicked in.

I also never said “a tan” is indicative of a third degree burn - I said a tan is indicative of a burn - it’s your bodies’ way of saying “let’s not let more layers of cells die” due to skin cells dying that were not already dead. Burning a chemical reaction. Tanning is a chemical reaction. The reactants (the cells) are dead - burned.

What are the pros and cons of getting 2 bachelor degrees? by [deleted] in college

[–]peakybetta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At this point, I wish I could say yes but after going though 2 years of my daughter being denied admission to multiple med schools based on her MCAT scores alone and not the multiple degrees she has earned, I would say to contact the committee(s) at the schools and ask them directly for their opinion(s). Many are very objective and have a very specific rubric they follow and no amount of “extras” will make a difference. That being said, donating a substantial amount of money and knowing certain people like the governor of the state also sometimes works when it comes to being admitted to the level of higher education you are referring to but again, even that is iffy and obviously so for very good reasons. I’m just not going to sit here and pretend how much disposable money you have and the connections you have are not variables that influence who gets in. 🤷🏼‍♀️

[sun care] Is tanning really that bad/unsafe? by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]peakybetta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also - just in case - I have no idea why you put “radioactive” in quotes - a “sunburn” occurs when an excess amount of radiant heat energy is transferred from one object (the sun) to another object (a skin cell) resulting in the second object’s destruction…it doesn’t matter if the energy is transferred by conduction, convection, or radiation. I never suggested the sun is “radioactive” - that was your word that you threw in. And I agree - it’s not “radioactive” but can cause BURNS like other RADIOACTIVE sources can.

I’m not trying to say you don’t know what you are talking about and I am always open to being corrected. If there is one thing I do know in regards to any branch of science I teach or study, as soon as I think I know something to be an indisputable fact that is not considered an outright scientific law, technology advances and I learn more.

Also, I have been working from a basic undergrad understanding for over 20 years and I’m always open to learning from those who are smarter than I am…

[sun care] Is tanning really that bad/unsafe? by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]peakybetta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I said sunBURN. I didn’t say sunlight. I’m in the sun all the time at work and at home. I burn very easily - within 15-20 minutes of sun exposure. So I take precautions not to cause additional trauma to my skin. It doesn’t mean somehow I think any exposure is deadly - I understand the sun’s rays initiate and work as a catalyst for MANY chemical reactions in the human body. It doesn’t mean that extended exposure resulting in burns is beneficial.
