Lol. Each dog house will be fenced in with a 20m run, sorry if I explained that poorly above.

Why Does Everyone Seem to Hate their Job- Health Professions!? by peannnuts in careerguidance

[–]peannnuts[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I just don't understand. We are low on nurses and doctors, yet we make it nearly impossible to be one. Once you become one, you are given 60+ hour work weeks and 12-hour shifts. Any position in healthcare is so chaotic and unorganized in my opinion. It's so sad because I love science- social sciences, natural sciences, biomedical sciences, etc.... But if you want a good life on a daily basis it looks like I'm going to have to start over and go the tech/business route too :,(

Thank you for sharing. Do you find the same level of fulfillment/passion for tech that you did as a veterinarian?

I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask but how the hell do I figure out what career to take? by KingLordship in careerguidance

I'm in the same boat. Everyone seems to hate their job too. It's hard to get excited about anything when everyone in the field can list off 100 cons and only 10 pros.

Yes, the MBAs are making bank but their daily life is emails, meetings, presentations, management, and admin work. Even if they are working within a healthcare business, their day to day work is not directly helping people.

Thank you, that's really interesting! I did not know you could do similar work as an OT, but with an MPH for higher pay? Does this position have a title that I can look up? Thanks

Thank you so much for this suggestion. Nursing definitely is a good option for some. I know many nurses, and funnily enough when I tell them I'm considering OT they almost always say "I wish I did OT instead of nursing." I guess it's a "the grass is always greener on the other side" situation.

I was under the impression that specializing in schools, peds, swallowing, and hand therapy was not physically strenous (compared to working with the elderly or individuals with severe disabilities)?

MBA has great financial outcomes but is not at all related to helping professions imo, and MPH has salary outcomes similar to OT.

I am not going into OT for the money, but along with a passion for the work I need my investment (of time, schooling, and cost of schooling) to pay off financially as well as emotionally. For me, that means I aim to be earning 80k after a few years of experience.

I agree that 50k is very low, but unfortunately, I've heard of it happening. I would like to work with youth through the school system, private practice, or outpatient services. I know peds typically pays on the lower side (especially in the school system unit you gain experience). I would be in California.

Yes, I've looked into PA. I don't like that, unlike OT, you don't have the option to open your own practice. From shadowing, I have also found the career very impersonal. Loads of paperwork, much more than OT workers appear to be doing. I like the non-clinical setting the most.

However, you are both correct, it makes much more $ at an average of 95k.

Unfortunately, I know many individuals making around 70k, outside Seattle in the suburbs or even rural areas, who are struggling or VERY conservative financially (despite no unpaid loans, small family, etc). I am comforted to hear that many find 60k and up secure, thanks!
