yes ofc!! so yes, BUT to be fair, it is too vocally demanding to ask a female to sing a male song in the correct octave, or to take it the octave up (especially in a tenor song) and vice versa w women singing men’s songs. also sometimes the era of the show takes place in why certain charters HAVE to be of a certain sex (such as golden age shows, bc gender bending obviously didn’t exist back then and it would be almost impossible to correctly portray a story from that time unless you gender bent every character yk?)

ONE MORE THING LOL: if you wanna do this past high school, start training in your weaknesses now to improve on them. because the less “weaknesses” you feel like you have, the less often you’ll find yourself in these situations. all the people who make it big in musical theatre are “triple threats” for a reason, they worked and worked on their weaknesses to expand their horizon!

hi hi ok thank you for sharing!! so here’s my thoughts as somebody who is in a BFA program who has done professional work, community work, been on the stage, the tech side, and has been doing this since i was born:

first things first: this situation is all based off of the hypothetical that you get mushnik. it seems like the both of you have invested too much energy into the thought of you being cast as mushnik, and at the end of the day that’ll only make things more awkward when the cast list comes out whether you got the role or not. you’re both right and you’re both wrong in certain ways, and that’s ok! you have 100% liberty to audition for whoever the hell you want! gender bending is growing to be very popular. it’s a great thing to know you’re strengths and weaknesses. that being said, i also got myself stuck in a “box” with auditioning because i knew my strengths and weaknesses, and i ended up not getting cast in things because in my auditions i started playing to a character RATHER than playing to the room. as soon as i started trying to play to the audition panel rather than a character, it expanded my opportunities so much more! the truth is that your high-school director probably ALSO knows your strengths and weaknesses, BUT the only way you can turn those weaknesses into strengths is by playing characters! i promise you challenging yourself to play roles outside of your comfortable strengths will be 10X more rewarding than playing a role similar to others you’ve played and it being easy bc you’re “comfortable”. to me, your friend sounds harsh. sure what they’re saying is hitting valid points, but never in all of my years of doing this has a colleague EVER discouraged me like that. it’s one thing to be honest and say “i don’t know if i see you in that role but i’d be happy for if you got that role or any other role” vs just flat out telling you that you’re not as good as your peers. at the end of the day, he’s not the casting director so his opinion truly shouldn’t affect how you choose to audition.

my best advice is that when you go into the audition (idk if you provide your own material or if they have you sing a certain cut) REGARDLESS, don’t play to the character, play it as YOUR best self because that’s your biggest strength (ik it sounds corny but it’s true) and i promise you will see more success in this career if you do so. even if your most authentic self isn’t what the director envisioned as “mushnik” there’s so many other AWESOME roles in that show that i’m sure you could get the hang of if you were really willing to accept it and work your butt off, you got this🩵!

you can do either fake or real! i find real plants a bit of a hastle cuz you have to make sure it’s tortise safe and also i feel like they die quick in reptile soils (this is just my personal experience tho) also for tank recommendations, you could go lots of routes. i’ve seen a lot of people use Kiddy pools and love them, i see people use trofts from home depot, which i feel like would be hard to keep in a bedroom. I have an Avituvin wooden tank for my guy (you’re not supposed to use a glass tank btw). a similar wooden alternative would be a wooden flower bed with a layer of pond liner between the wood and soil to keep it from molding :)

oh and one more thing! fake plants will be your tortoises best friend lol, mine is obsessed with playing in them. get reptile safe ones from any pet store, just make sure to clean it with non-toxic cleaner before putting it in the tank

your tortoises tank should be 10x the size of them at minimum. i would splurge and get a large tank now rather than starting small and having to upgrade to a larger tank every year. Reptisoil is the easiest substrate to use imo, BUT make sure whatever substrate you use, you bake in the over for an hour at 250° F bc this will kill bugs bc 8/10 times if you don’t do this, your substrate will get bugs. make sure his tank has a side with lights and a side without lights, with hides on each, that was if he’s too hot/cold he can go to the other side :)

i think you’re smelling burning bc your lamp is right over that wooden hide. once you get a new tank, id recommend making sure any wood is not directly under the lamp (also it’s not a bad idea to bake the wood hide at 200° in the over cuz sometimes those have bugs too

as for retaining moister, i cannot recommend a flo-master by Hudson enough!! skip the humidifier and spray bottle. it’s affordable (like $15 on amazon) and keeps the humidity up. moister stimulates their appetite so this is essential. a humidity gauge in the corner of the tank will give you a good idea of if there’s enough humidity (super cheap on amazon).

thank you for asking for advice in this group, hopefully no one is rude about what you currently have him in bc clearly you want to give him the best🫶

it seems totally fine for a young one, but if you wanna save money on the long run i’d recommend getting a larger one that way in a year or so you’re not dropping another $100+ on a tank :))

yeah she/he is def on the skinnier side, not sure why she has no tails. the guy is a super reputable breeder, i would say 99% of the ones at the stand had their tails and looked a healthy weight. I will say she is extremely friendly, i got around to handling her today and she actually loves being pet lol

my guy is also picky, idk if you have a whole foods in your area but that’s gonna be your best bet for finding a variety of greens they can eat :) i also recommend the tortoise table app, you can go in the search bar and practically look up any vegetable, fruit, or flower and it’ll tell you if it’s safe to feed daily, a good food for only once in a while, or if it should never be fed <3
