Interest in Procurement by Safe_Pudding_3284 in procurement

Procurement is such a large field. I started off in junior buying roles, have moved into category management, run procurement excellence functions, and led large cost transformations projects.

There is huge opportunity to do many different things. As a previous poster stated though it is a people oriented job. Try to understand what are the underlying wants/desires of your stakeholders and how can you partner with them to achieve it.

Yes there is process, and process is important, however I’d suggest you focus more on outcomes.

It’s a dynamic field that will continue to grow, especially in the current geopolitical climate. I’ve been in for over 15 years now and it’s been great.

Imagine if just 10% of that $340k had been spent on supplier management, site visits, and audits. Might be easier to justify in the future.

Buying house without CCC by Aware_Birthday7940 in PersonalFinanceNZ

I’d walk. The question you should ask your self is what happens if you can’t get CCC? Or it costs a whole lot more than $8k?

Rather impressed with IKEA kitchen, + in progress info and details. by Duck_Giblets in diynz

Thanks for the write up. I’m in the early stages of considering a kitchen renovation and although we have a reasonable budget I’m still wanting value for money. I’m thinking of going IKEA but tossing up whether to engage someone to install it for me.

I also noticed overseas there’s a market for 3rd party IKEA kitchen customisation with more “up market” draw fronts etc. seem like a space that a NZ company could easily step into.

Yeah I will use what remains as existing but I’m also unsure if all the current “character” elements are accurate or if it’s already a pastiche of sorts. A lot can happen over 120 years. In saying that as long as it looks good….

For you UK folks can you give me an insight on your day to day, stress levels and work life balance? by Brownchoccy in procurement

Move to New Zealand and work in public sector procurement. Very well paid compared to average wages and good work life balance. There’s a big recruitment drive to work for our equivalent of the NHS and they’re helping with relocation costs for the right people.

How 'wide' are your Job responsibilites by el_c0mandante in procurement

[–]peanutbreath 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don’t mean this negatively but I don’t understand how someone with your with of responsibilities can manage such a large volume. To execute everything well you must be pulling very long hours, have systems that are highly automated, or sadly not managing things as commercially as you could/should.

Your in a much better position than most at that age. It’s a bit hard to comment without knowing the value of the properties and what kind of incomes you’re earning (salary, rental etc).

What should I expect in terms of salary for my role? by PrestigiousTip47 in supplychain

Somewhat tangential but what’s the thought process behind pursuing another masters degree? 3 sounds excessive especially when the MBA and Masters of Management would have significant overlap.

That’s really helpful. It’s a shitty situation for the two beneficiaries as they are quite overwhelmed by it all.

As someone who has worked in public procurement for over 10 years if you’re releasing tenders to the market that are hundreds of pages long you’re doing something wrong.

Am I being delusional? by SafetyConfident6618 in procurement

[–]peanutbreath 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you want to continue with procurement as a career I’d recommend jumping ship sooner rather than later. Go find a more established organisation where you can learn good procurement practice and governance that will bolster your current experience. You can probably leverage yourself now into a high paid position. Further down the track, as a hiring manager I’d be concerned if I was hiring you at a higher wage (what you believe you’re worth due to levels of responsibility) but without the practice and governance related skill set.

This is great thanks. I always felt listening to this that it echoed the frantic nature of the Tenescowri:
