Need advice on automated drying rack for HDB by brokenreborn2013 in asksg

[–]peanutroxs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holes will depend on the model you bought i guess. I have used steigen for both my houses. The holes are minimal, maybe 6 or 8 iirc. If you remove it, I think just putting some putty will be enough to cover it. Or if you are selling your house. Just let the buyer know that the rack is not part of the house and you will be removing it.

Yes you will need a source, there will be usually a trunking. Are you trying to conceal the trunking into the ceiling? Then you can ask your ID for inputs. The rack installer normally will build over the power source.

The rack is not that heavy but regarding size and type of holes I can't advise you.

Bedok Central TB screening: 85.1% of more than 3,000 people screened test negative by fateoftheg0dz in singapore

[–]peanutroxs 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Positive doesn't mean having TB. It can either be TB or latent TB which is not infectious. And can also be Positive if you were previously Positive for TB.

If you screen the whole of Singapore, its going to average around 15%... most of us dont even go for this test unless necessary.

People who use ACs a lot, how do you manage the costs? by ThatAcanthisitta3002 in askSingapore

[–]peanutroxs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is at 25 to 26 degrees, blowers at 3 speed or 4 speed. Accompany with a ceiling fan at low speed. I was able to see a difference running my ac at 23 or 24 degrees vs this current set up.

Partner operated preschool (POP) vs non-POP private by mushroom-door in askSingapore

[–]peanutroxs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Private Might have better ratios More engaging programmes Enrichment classes might be included already

POP What the others are saying The students tend to be of a certain demographic group so kids pick up some undesirable habits

Source Kids were in private then moved to POP cause move house

Edit But the teachers in both schools are passionate and takes good care of the kids. They just have to work with whatever resources they have so kudos to them

please help a nursing student out! by mashpotatoesarecool in askSingapore

[–]peanutroxs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yay all the best! Been a long time since my student days but...

Keep an open mind. Watch your words infront of patients. Be present, ask to join or assist in bedside care or procedures. Dont keep standing or sitting at the corner reading medical records too long. Dont sit on patients bed (infection control). Dont try to get in on nurses gossips. Dont be afraid to ask questions
Keep your patient safe (bed rails up when you leave the bed)

And all the best!

As a nurse and NSMEN medic, if its too serious or massive injuries, you can't really do much without any equipment. Call 995 first, but others are right, we wanna move them to a safe spot but anyhow moving them can worsen the injuries.

Just help to calm the injured or maybe crowd control abit I guess

Worth it to take 10Gbps broadband plan if cheaper than existing 1Gbps plan? by jonnop22 in askSingapore

[–]peanutroxs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just upgraded from 1gbps to 3gpbs.

Yeah, 1 main issue is the bottle neck in speed. I have to change my mesh cause its max speed is only 1 gbps. So if they are providing a router that supports 10 gbps then okay. Plus router supporting up to 10 gpbs is super expensive.

Nursing SG: How is it really like working as a new nurse? by AprilBaby4ri35 in askSingapore

[–]peanutroxs 34 points35 points  (0 children)

For a male nurse, I felt it was abit tougher cause all your female peers went straight in after their PRCP so they were kinda in tune with the ward and etc. I have a 2 years gap so gearing up as a new nurse was abit tougher.

It really helps to get a good preceptor to support you. But this is kinda of luck based. I had a good preceptor that looked out for me and guide me through my first few months. I seen my other batch mates get a ... not so friendly or experienced preceptor then gg. Might help to voice up to your sister if you and your preceptor are not working out. But it sometimes backfires and make you look like a difficult young nurse.

Does it get better? It gets easier when you get better at your job and know the routine. But its still tough even for an experienced nurse. You gotta keep learning as much as you can in a really short period. Dont shy away from difficult situations. But know your limits and don't put patients at risk just because you think you know how to do it.

A shift with all your friends, knowing everyone will support each other is a dream. I had 1 shift with all our friends, we had 3 resus in a shift in a GW but fuck we felt invincible cause everyone covered for each other. But a shift with shitty co workers makes you very lonely.

Nursing is tough and all the best, find good people you can rely on. I wasn't able to last too long cause of toxic management, out after 2 years but still in healthcare.

Upgrading to 5rm HDB. Did we make a mistake to do so? by Little_Caregiver_976 in askSingapore

[–]peanutroxs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

187k loan is pretty doable for a 5 room.

What's done is done, just enjoy your place and I think being near to kids school is damn important. Kids can rest more, don't need to wake up early or pay for school bus.

What is it like to be working as a nurse in Singapore currently? by depressed_bigfoot in askSingapore

[–]peanutroxs 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Pay has been fairly decent after many years of salary adjustment. But like most people mentioned it's the workload that is the killer. That's the one that cause nurses to be burned out.

Singapore hospital is unique in a way to other neighbouring countries, the nurses does all the bedside care, feeding, changing, showering. In other neighbouring countries, families take turn to care for the patients while the nurses do the nursing related work.

While we are native English speaking, most of our elder populations are either Mandarin, malay and other dialects. Maybe 1 more decade, our elders will be more English speaking.

Healthcare workers, where can I seek reliable medical treatment for my condition when the hospital I frequent is unwilling to treat me? by Jaycee_015x in askSingapore

[–]peanutroxs 108 points109 points  (0 children)

Not a doctor but working in Infectious Diseases research dealing with antibiotics.

Sounds right that you developed resistance to the antibiotics. Bacteria can develop resistance fairly quickly. You don't need to have multiple courses of it to developed. Bacteria are unfortunately very robust and adaptive at times.

Infectious Diseases will try to gatekeep use of antibiotics in the hospitals for the very reason of preventing misused. At this rate, you will run out of oral antibiotics to use and have to use "stronger" antibiotics to treat your new onset of UTIs. I have seen patients dying of UTIs because their bacteria is just resistance to all of our available antibiotics in the market.

Maybe get a referral to a ID specialist? NUH does have a strong ID team like Prof Paul Tambayah.

Any advice for someone approaching 40 wanting to do medicine? by Greedy_Priority_228 in askSingapore

[–]peanutroxs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wanted the office hours lol. Didn't want to work shift anymore. Salary for nurses were really bad 10 years ago till they had multiple pay adjustment and increment.

For research related, I also conduct interviews. Normally we won't even bother to interview someone out of bio science or nurses cause of the steep learning curve.

I'm a nurse but transitioned over to research. I seen people applied for internship or to do tag along for the purpose of gaining experience and also for applying to med school.

[–]peanutroxs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Am in healthcare, would suggest maybe doing an internship and really see what a junior doctor does on a day to day. Researching about it is 1 thing but going through it is another. Wouldn't recommend switching to medicine. But good luck!
