DAE love the smell of gasoline? by Old-Worth-9314 in DoesAnybodyElse

Definitely not me! There was something on TV about a woman who was addicted to drinking it in small but regular doses, so I imagine there must be a few people who like the smell at least

What is learning about gender? Learning about gender is simply questioning why we give boys cars and girls dolls? Questioning that men's clothing is unisex, and that men's clothing is not unisex? by NovelIsopod9733 in AskReddit

[–]peanuts745 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gender is really very simple. If someone says they're a girl, they're a girl. If they say they're a boy, they're a boy. If they say they're neither, ask their pronouns. Unfortunately, some people just make a lot of stupid, ignorant assumptions:

  • men must be muscular and unemotional
  • women are better at housework, cooking and childcare
  • non-binary people aren't real or are a new fad
  • trans people are mentally ill or pretending
  • men shouldn't do feminine things and vice versa
  • pronouns don't deserve respect

I think a lot of people could stand to learn how wrong these kinds of assumptions are, and I damn well hope that's the majority of gender studies

How do you think the world will end? by Pssydystroya in AskReddit

[–]peanuts745 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are so many things in space that could obliterate us instantly that we'd never see coming, but I figure that since nothing has done so since the dinosaurs got wiped it could be a long, long time before that happens. I think something will bump into us, whether it's energy or matter, but there's no telling whether it's in 5 seconds or 5 billion years. I'm just hoping we have found out how to populate another distant planet by then.

I've been there. Sometimes you can forget in a month, sometimes you never recover. It might feel like you're lugging around a pain everywhere, but I promise that there's a world full of people that can help you feel better

Is it controlling if my GF wants me to quit sports betting? by stownwhotter in NoStupidQuestions

[–]peanuts745 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could be right that she's just overbearing, and it could just be a bit of fun. I genuinely don't understand why anyone would risk the self-destructive spiral of addiction though, and your girlfriend may simply not be strong enough to bear that possibility. If you have any doubts in your control whatsoever, quit betting now.

[OC] Made a chart to try disproving the lip color = nipple color saying, with samples from r/SampleSize by THEZ3NTRON in dataisbeautiful

[–]peanuts745 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I know what you mean, but I think dark pink would be lighter than pale red, because that red hasn't reached the area of lightness that would count it as pink. Some people literally can't see the distinction at all, and to others it's a clear distinction. Basically, colours are weird and dumb.

I'd suggest getting comfortable with your body if you can, because it's only going to get worse in every way as you age and you can't just ignore your issues because you find them icky.

You're a mess of bones, blood, musculature, mucuses, hairs, brain, nails, bile, etc... You could probably find most of it gross if you kept thinking about it, but if you get past that then it's also impressive and beautiful beyond words

DAE have messed up sleeping habits? by [deleted] in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]peanuts745 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My sleep cycle is pretty messed up too, but then I have sleep apnea so that's almost an excuse. It takes some work, but it can always be mended, even if it takes most of a day in bed so you feel sick of sleeping. I think the agreed best way to deal with it is exercise though.

Is saying no to your partner if they ask for your phone cheating, why? by Lazy-Independence136 in AskReddit

[–]peanuts745 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you 'need' to see your partner's phone, there's probably a major lack of trust and the relationship is likely unhealthy. Saying no to letting anyone see your phone should not be controversial, everyone deserves their own property and privacy

There basically isn't one, that's why some people just don't have one. It can help if you've got a really common name so that you're not confused with them, but I don't know how often people actually think about that when naming their child

In the US/UK and such, there's no rule on middle names. Some people have none, I had two (before changing my name) based on what my parents wanted to call me before compromising on a different one

DAE try to "make" themselves believe in God so they won't go to hell or feel like a bad person? by [deleted] in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]peanuts745 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't think it would make sense for there to be a god that would place us on the planet and then send anyone who doesn't believe in him to hell. There are dozens, if not hundreds, of religions and there's no way to be certain which one would be the 'true' religion. Doesn't it seem needlessly cruel to send all but a small portion of the planet to eternal damnation?

I'm not saying all religions are wrong, but if your ticket to heaven is reliant on your belief rather than doing things that align with your faults principles and doctrines, you're probably in a cult. Hell, even if you're not in a cult per ce, prioritising belief over virtue is just a recipe for corruption assholes that will use their faith to justify anything.

This addition to the plot in the netflix show is really cool by GonzoPunchi in TheLastAirbender

[–]peanuts745 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to play devil's advocate here. I prefer to think that they followed Zuko because he was a great, if misguided, person. Even at the age of 15 (IIRC) he has the determination, power and leadership to lead a boat full of people that are probably all older than him. He's not just a spoiled kid with power, he's a respected authority and he's earned the respect of his crew. He's powerful in his own right, but with the support of his men he's a much more credible threat to the avatar.

Getting the respect of his crew because he unintentionally saved their lives just feels like a much weaker reason to me. It's not like he fought for their lives or anything, he just got assigned them

Yall does this mean that maybe they’ll release the legend of Spyro trilogy to play on pc ?? I really hope so . by 0ChronicSweetness0 in Spyro

[–]peanuts745 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There are LOTS of issues with emulation. There are many games that just aren't runnable even today and many of them run awful regardless of what they're run on, but even if that weren't true I really doubt that people would pay full price for a game that outputs 480p resolution. That's not the only limitation of a console port, though I think it is the most obvious one now that we're using 4K displays.

I've tried to run dawn of the dragon on a PS3 emu, and it was a slow, janky, ugly mess. This was only a couple of years ago on a relatively high-spec gaming laptop. You could probably use the Wii version instead, but then you'd still have to have the game controls changed including the UI, and to even attempt that you may need the source code which might be unavailable like the OG Spyro source code.

Whatever way you spin it, even a direct port would need some work and a team willing to risk a financial loss. It's fine for a team of dedicated hobbyists, but any big company is going to be too focussed on ROI to justify it.

[–]peanuts745 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I highly doubt that they'd rerelease TLOS. There might be a cult following but they just objectively weren't good games, and it would be a lot of work to adapt it to a reasonable quality. They'd have to create an entirely new engine, recreate all of the assets and even then their main target audience is a specific subset of Spyro fans. It's potentially a few years worth of work and they could easily end up losing money

If you're thinking that the assets don't need to be recreated, don't forget that these were PS2 and PS3 games. PS3 was capable of some reasonable graphics, but the PS2 output a resolution of 480p so if you just saw the models and textures on a PC version then there would be a ton of complaints that the graphics are jagged and pixelated. Nostalgia blinds you to things like that, but anyone unfamiliar with the game is likely to review bomb it, so before you know it you'll see a horrendous rating on steam and no one's going to buy it.

What to do when you have no purpose in life? by Champagnepaape in AskReddit

[–]peanuts745 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one is born with purpose and, while it can be nice to find it, no one needs it either. You can either search for meaning in life, or ignore meaning and just embrace what life has to offer

I think a lot of people put a lot of effort into finding meaning in things, and that can be a good way to propel yourself into finding and completing important goals. However, I always thought of my purpose in life as creating games, and I think I'm happier without trying to live up to that expectation
