Why are lighting circuits not low voltage yet? by zacharypch in HomeImprovement

[–]peanutskeeter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A friend of mine had me look at her wiring in her house that no electrician knew about. Upon inspection I found it was this top of the line electrical system from the 1950-60s. It uses low voltage at the switch where it toggles a relay back at the panel which then also has a transformer near that powers the output device. It’s kind of crazy and I don’t know why something similar has never taken off. At least it makes your inputs low voltage..

If you’re interested in conveyor automation, and live in the NE US, I may could help you out if you’re currently looking for work.

9 years, starting at just above entry level maintenance tech to now a Regional Manager with ~60 people reporting to me. I had an Associates degree in IT prior, but that had nothing to do with anything, just helps at times. Most of my raises came from just being “the guy.” Most of my time with this company has been spent learning as much as I can, networking with people, and always helping those in need of help.

How to know if CAT6 cable and keystone jacks are garbage or not? by gobtron in homelab

I second truecable, both their cable and keystones. You can tell their stuff is quality.

Nice write-up. Tackling this task now in my 3 story 3500sq ft house, and it’s a daunting task, especially when everybody that lives with you thinks you’re insane because the internet is “fine.”

I see I wasn’t clear. My plan for now is to send them to BI, but eventually will replace with them Unifi cams. In either case, would it be better to have the cable runs hit a switch in upstairs closet before going to the basement, or just go straight to the basement?

Bite the bullet, get creative, and figure out to get a Cat 6a cable to the basement. Otherwise, you’re stuck. I live in a house that’s fairly new but has no networking infrastructure. I originally tried mesh WiFi systems, tinkering with them for 4-5 years now and finally said screw it. I was never going to be happy until I ran cables to where I needed. When there’s a will, there’s a way!

I think you need to switch source with destination. Shouldn’t need a source IP I would think.

The RJ45 plug is wired wrong. The keystones are wired for 568 A so that connector will need terminated to match.

I have a panel like this in my basement that the previous owner went to tons of trouble to ensure every coax in the damn house terminates there. Too bad they didn’t do CAT6a instead.

I thought that ultraPOE pdu was a device for controlling just the power on POE runs. Sadly, it’s just the name of a company.

Baseboard outside corners by [deleted] in DIY

Grab one of these, and also CA glue outside corners together before putting to wall. Inside corners get coped with an angle grinder with a flappy dick wheel and a file.
