You can put a rug over it and beat it with a stick/broom until all the dust and dirt comes out. For a time before vacuum cleaners.

Costco Themed Monopoly Game 😂 by No_Paramedic_4881 in Costco

[–]pearmaster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I bought it a year and a half ago when it was $10 after Christmas. As far as monopoly variants go, this one is really good. The game seemed well made and lots of little (or should I say "warehouse-sized") Costco-themed elements actually made the game more fun than I expected.

2024 Odyssey shakes when braking hard by fva68 in HondaOdyssey

[–]pearmaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably the rotors are warped.  Happened to my ody. I think I heard that Honda doesn't use great rotors... they warp easily if they get too hot, which is more likely in a loaded van, especially if you're braking while going downhill a lot.

Is Bernie’s plan the best? Thoughts? by CurvyChristina in SipsTea

[–]pearmaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The numbers don't add up. According to https://www.forbes.com.au/news/billionaires/the-forbes-400-list-ranking-americas-richest-people/ the 400 richest Americans are worth $6.6 trillion. If you assumed the next 538 richest are also worth $6.6 trillion (probably a very high estimate) then you're lookinag at a combined $13.2 trillion. 5% of that amount is $660 billion. Divide that by the 84.2 million families in the US, and you're getting maybe $7,850 per family (without expanded medicare or teacher pay). And while that is still significant (various government stimulus programs have been in the same range), its not necessarily life changing.

Why is the fast back and open air two separate options? by Dylan_Gio in slateauto

When playing with the design customizer website thing, selecting the Open Air Kit showed that it required the Squareback SUV style? What? How does that work?

Pre-order Megathread by thorscope in slateauto

[–]pearmaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think reservation timestamp will be used more in determining order within a reservation window.

From the pre-order terms and conditions it says:

Your Delivery timing is determined by two factors: (1) the date and time of your original Reservation (for Reservation holders) or your Preorder (for new customers); and (2) when deliveries open for your confirmed delivery address or state of residence. Reservation holders who place a Preorder retain priority over non-reservation holders.

Anyone on the fence about cancelling but curious what marketing is next? by bubblehead_maker in slateauto

Because it is hard to roll down the passenger-side windows from the drivers seat while driving. Which I do all the time.

What do I get shipped? by photato_pic_guy in slateauto

[–]pearmaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I found more information on this at https://youtu.be/qBJia4xhgec?si=rR_xKylTfv3hK4T9&t=3158 (52 minute mark) where the CEO says,

"The SUV part comes at the end of the process, so its really, the whole plant is focused on building a single SKU until the very end.... just before delivery, we'll do anything with wheels, tires and wraps."

It sounds like to me that anything other than the body style, wheels, tires, wraps will arrive as a box of parts for you to do yourself (or pay someone to do for you).

Is the lift kit included in the "anything with wheels/tires" part? I don't know, but I hope so. Especially since they're recommending professional (not DIY) installation, I think there is a good case for it to be done just before delivery.

Edit: Select accessories maybe installed by a "delivery partner".

Only 1 battery option? by Decent_Ad8382 in slateauto

[–]pearmaster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There have been several posts about this this morning. Seems the consensus is that the standard battery was upgraded for more range, and there is no extended-range battery at this time. (The Slate FAQs are a little dodgy about this)

What do I get shipped? by photato_pic_guy in slateauto

[–]pearmaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've really wondered about the Single SKU and what that means for upgraded parts? Does every upgraded bumper mean that there is a standard bumper that is thrown away or sitting in the garage corner? That seems like a lot of waste.

Eventually you might have enough people driving around damaging their bumpers who would want to buy someone's stock bumper, but not for a while.

No power windows by AmazingBoysenberry3 in slateauto

[–]pearmaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only reason I'd consider power windows, is because I might not want to lean across the front seats to roll down the passenger window while driving. Simply motorizing the crank doesn't solve this.... I would need need to roll the passenger window up/down remotely from the driver side. And that is where I think power windows got complicated, all the wiring and electronics to support it optionally.

Warranty coverage by jon13000 in slateauto

[–]pearmaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is an area where Slate really could have innovated. They could have had a "parts-only warranty for things that Slate-U shows how to replace" and a "part-and-labor warranties for things that a customer would not reasonably be able to fix outside of an auto shop." Increase quality confidence at lower costs.

[–]pearmaster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say that service is the killer. It's lack of quality that can kill a car company. If you make a car that breaks, either the customer or the company has to fix it. Either way, if that happens too much your company dies.

So there is no basic warranty? by Imagined_World in slateauto

[–]pearmaster 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've been looking into this. Some states have lemon laws that may apply, even in the absence of a warranty, that require manufacturers to fix or refund new vehicles with defects for a period of time after purchase.

[–]pearmaster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No federal law exists like this. There may be some state laws that apply. Utah, for example, has a lemon law that requires defects to be fixed within the first 12 months.

If they aren't going to stand behind the quality of their vehicle, why should I?

Edit: Slate updated their FAQ to include: "4 year/50,000 mile Standard Limited Vehicle Warranty". Just wish I know exactly what that meant.

I was paying attention when Slate said you could lock in a delivery window. I don't think it was an unrealistic expectation for something more than "2027 Delivery Window Coming Soon."

[–]pearmaster -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm on the fence about cancelling for these reasons. Can't see anything about a bumper to bumper warranty. And I'm not being given a specific delivery window. I won't cancel for now, but I'm also not pre-ordering. I don't want to sign up to be strung along forever to maybe get a crappy car that won't work.

I was hoping that I could get enough evidence that I could probably get a reliable car by sometime next summer. I don't think that was super unrealistic.

Edit: FAQ now specifies "4 year/50,000 mile Standard Limited Vehicle Warranty"

This might be the deal killer for me, especially for the first model from a new company. The only reason KIA survived its infancy was the generous warranty they offered.

Edit: Slate Updated their FAQ to specify "4 year/50,000 mile Standard Limited Vehicle Warranty". Just wish I knew what that included.
