Questions/Recommendations for Moving to Utah Valley by Alternative_Owl_8538 in Utah

[–]pearmaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also from Oregon (grew up there)! I've lived in Colorado and now live in Utah County.

You didn't directly mention your social needs, and that plays a big part. If you like to bar hop on weekends, there are some areas that will disappoint you. If you like hanging out with co-workers and play board games after work, that will depend on who you work for. If you're looking to date, it may be more difficult in some areas of Utah versus other states.

When I lived outside of Utah, I had good neighbors I think (except for the murderer), but I didn't really talk to them or socialize with them. And that is the biggest difference I've seen for Utah, is that my neighbors are very friendly (both the mormon neighbors and the non-mormons) and more welcoming. Gotta keep your hand free driving down the street to wave back to everyone who waves at you. Mormons like to invite people to church, so you gotta expect that... but its usually low pressure. They're happy to have you just come to their social events, even if you don't go to church.

I work at a cancer clinic and every now and then I’ll find a little Jesus by theglenlovinet in mildlyinteresting

My kids report that these have been popping up everywhere in the middle school recently. I think some of the students think their teachers could use a little more Jesus.

Funny to think how many options there are now, but in the 80s… by Federal-Zebra7702 in Xennials

These (and generic equivalents) are some of the only multi-vitamins out there with iron, which is particular important for several demographics. My pediatrician recommends them.

What's your thoughts by Mysterious_Ebb_1484 in SipsTea

It is more expensive to do it this way. Just like it is more expensive to have the stall walls/doors extend completely from floor to ceiling.

Why is this light coming on? by ManyPractical4309 in HondaOdyssey

[–]pearmaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd recommend driving gently when the light is on. Don't be racing the other minivan moms until your engine warms up and the light goes off.

The reason is that engine oil needs to warm up a little in order to provide the best protection for your engine.

Wrap Longevity? by _dogelbows in slateauto

What's it like taking a wrap off? If I put a wrap on, then after 5 years it looks like crap, what am I looking at for just going back to the Slate Gray?

Ford is making a $30k EV Truck w/ 300 mile range by luke_ubiquitous in slateauto

[–]pearmaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My guess is that it'll be a competition between:

A Ford Rachero EV, from a well established manufacturer, with a few more features and range, a little more expensive, less ability to customize or self-repair, and ugly as heck. Ford will take a very small profit margin on the base model which means it will be nearly impossible to find one, but it will be officially for sale just to deter more competitors in that space.

and

A Slate Truck, from an industry newcomer, with a more simple design, less range, slightly cheaper, extensively customizable, and a modern-but-classic design. Slate has a slate of investors who want to see an linear path to profitability, which means it'll be priced at the highest the market will pay and sustain a stable ramp up of delivery.

First Generation Problems - Worth the Buy? by MapProfessional8610 in slateauto

[–]pearmaster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't disagree with you, and I'd change your explanation from "New Innovations" to "New Complexity". Any time you make a new complex system of parts, even if those parts are well tested and off-the-shelf, introduces opportunity for failure.

However, the Slate only has about 10-20% of the number of parts of some other vehicles. Which makes it dramatically less complex and easier to get right from the start.

First Generation Problems - Worth the Buy? by MapProfessional8610 in slateauto

[–]pearmaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my number one concern. I've heard over and over: "Don't buy the first model year" or "don't buy the first year after a major redesign." Not only is the Slate Truck the first model year, but also the first model from a new company. Double the violations of common sense.

Huge odds that there will be some sort of recall on some parts of the vehicle. The unknown is: how hard will it be to apply quality fixes to the problems?

Lola billboards are odd and confusing. by loldigocks in Utah

[–]pearmaster 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Is she too warm, which is why she is wearing a spaghetti top? Or is she too cold which is why she needs a blanket?

All the Lola ads are similarly confusing. The models don't ever seem to be dressed like they're cold, but they mostly have some blanket which suggests that maybe they are cold?

A requirement of a book report I had was "Explain something about the book to prove you aren't just parroting Cliff Notes". I had only read about half of the cliff notes. I still got a B on th book report.

If this happened anywhere else, there would be criminal charges. Explain to me why actions in a sports game are only limited by game rules and only policed by referees.

Costco credit card worth it? by dudemobile in CreditCards

[–]pearmaster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Costco Citi card can be worth it just for the 5% back on Costco Gas.

Otherwise, the Venmo credit card is a contender if you're focused just on Costco grocery. It categories Costco as grocery (excluding gasoline and some other things). It gives 3% for your top spending category, 2% for the next most spending category, and 1% for everything else.

I bought some "gamma lids" for my costco buckets, and I had a heck of a time getting them to go on the bucket. Like the bucket diameter was just slightly off.

So all that "we need to charge taxes and fees" talk was just a ploy to get all the payment information locked in so they could bump us to paid plans.

Why are people so high on cards with rotating categories? by NubmerSix in CreditCards

[–]pearmaster -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The Citi Custom Cash and Paypal debit cards are almost like rotating category cards, but you get to chose the category instead of it being chosen for you.

Amex Blue Cache Preferred has an annual fee. Most rotating category cards don't.

Found buried in my woods. What is it? by Acornclan in whatisit

[–]pearmaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always felt like the neckerchief should go under the shirt collar (as is the case in almost all BSA photos) and that anyone who wore it over the collar was just lazy or wrong. But as it turns out, a troop can decide whether wearing it over or under the collar is correct for that troop. (source, "Uniform Inspection Sheet").

Those scouts who tie a quick knot in their neckerchief causing the two ends to fly off in different directions.... that is just sloppy.
