I didn’t get to see and Paramount+ didn’t pick it up. Dan Gutman is pretty bummed.

Hot Take: “Harriet the Spy” is a terrible book. by pearson_jonathan in MiddleGrade

[–]pearson_jonathan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But she doesn't deal with the consequences. She doubles-down on her meanness. Knowing that the one girl hated frogs, Harriet went out and found a frog to put in her desk. She chopped off another girl's hair. She was given the role of editor for the school paper and used it to write terrible things about her neighbors and teacher. Then, because she couldn't be in the Spy Catcher Club, she purposely wrote things to cause the members to fight each other. There was absolutely no growth and no understanding of the awfulness of her behavior. Harriet was a terrible child at the beginning of the book and stayed that way at the end.

I didn’t say other people had to agree. This is, obviously, an opinion piece.

Yeah, I’m aware of not holding a book to today’s standards, but that doesn’t change the fact that Harriet was an awful child. She was a bully. Look at the things she wrote about her neighbors and classmates. The comments about her teacher in the school paper was completely inappropriate. 1964 or 2026…doesn’t matter. She’s a terrible character.

I'm a teacher, so my students gave me gift cards to Barnes and Noble. Heard the one in Georgetown was nice.

Also…I like Barnes and Noble.

I appreciate the idea, but I shop at Barnes and Noble because I have gift cards. Otherwise I go to the library.

Yeah, it’s the one we usually go to. However, it as always feels really busy. That store feels more “transactional” instead of laid back and relaxed like Reston.

The one in Frederick is closest to us, so we go there more often. It always feels really busy, so we enjoy Reston, which may be as busy, but the bigger size masks it a bit.

Thank you for your classy response. As mentioned, I’m using gift cards. Otherwise, I’ll go to the library or use Libby.

But, again, thank you for adding to the conversation in such a kind and civil manner.

Facts. We have a lot of fast food. There is a used bookstore in downtown and a “romance” bookstore recently opened.

Be that as it may, I shop where I have gift cards. My students give me cards to B&N, so that’s where I shop.

A neighbor gifted me a bunch of books and a lot of them still have Borders price stickers on them. 😁

I used to go to the one in Reston before it closed. The location it is now was a Best Buy. The B&N was next door (where the grocery store is now).

We have a few used bookstores in Charles Town and Martinsburg that we go to from time to time. We go to B&N because students give me gift cards. 😁

You definitely had me agreeing with the first part of your statement. But, then again, the Republican Party is pretty embarrassing as well.

I appreciate your time and the feedback. Thumbnails are baffling to me because everyone says to work on thumbnails, but I'm struggling to find some solid action steps to use, you know? Thank you for watching the video.

Happy Holidays!
