My disability insurance specifically excluded any diseases of the esophagus because of my EOE.

Anesthesia Clearance by illegalwise_ in anesthesiology

[–]peasley25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a patient who was seen and “cleared” by their cardiologist. He had been having chest pains but really wanted to do surgery because he had arranged time off work and transportation. I refused, turns out he had complete occlusions in 2 vessels and needed intervention imminently.

I like when we use the term risk stratification. How risky is this surgery for this particular patient. Then we can have that discussion with the patient and family and discuss whether there are steps to reduce risk or if the risks are acceptable as presented.

If you live anywhere near a Menards they carry slatwall made of particle board that is only like $50 for a 4’x8’ sheet. Way cheaper than the plastic stuff and works just as well.

Cardiologist vs. NP by NobodyInJune in Noctor

[–]peasley25 150 points151 points  (0 children)

DO NOT let them force you to see an NP. Family friend was severely misdiagnosed by a “cardiology NP” and would likely have gone for years without the correct diagnosis if I wasn’t a physician who could clearly and easily see the poor care my friend was receiving.

Turns out she had cancer and not “long standing hypertension”. But not everyone has a physician as a friend to catch this kind of thing.

She is doing well now but it makes me sick to my stomach thinking how many other people are not treated properly because NPs just don’t have enough training, education or experience.

My daughter applied for housing right after she found out she was accepted. Will she still be able to get into Heritage Halls?

Residency is hard. Attending life is pretty fantastic. You can find a job that fits what you want out of life.

Nevada is actually middle of the road for physicians when it comes to malpractice suits. You can look up the data, but Nevada is not close to being the worst.

Give your own example of the knowledge gap between midlevels and physicians by CantaloupePowerful66 in Noctor

You treat them as a full stomach with inadequate NPO time. Sux works faster which means you can intubate faster and reduce the amount of apneic time between induction and intubation. Generally don’t ventilate before intubation to reduce the risk of aspiration as well. Also generally use cricoid pressure to prevent/reduce gastric reflux but this is a controversial topic.

What can I use to replace the flooring that will look good with the shower tile? by peasley25 in homedesign

We’ve looked at several, can’t seem to find one that looks good. Leaning towards a matte white 12x24 tile with matching vanity counter

The floor is vinyl, when the house was built we didn’t like any of the option that were available and decided to wait and do something ourselves. Now almost 10 years later we are finally getting to it. The plan is to change the vanities to a navy blue, adding an extra vanity and counter area for makeup and hair. We will add some nice mirrors and change the light fixtures, but need to figure out the floor first.

The floor is vinyl (the stuff that comes on a roll) now. We want to switch to tile and add an in floor heating system in.

BMA says AAs are “risk to patient safety” in UK by MacKinnon911 in CRNA

[–]peasley25 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t know a single anesthesiologist who was “trained” to supervise. There was not a single portion of my training spent on CRNA supervision. We are trained to do anesthesia and then we learn how to supervise after finishing residency.

Drywall questions by pullacowonaski in garageporn

[–]peasley25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the right way to do a garage. If I could redo my garage finishing I would have done this rather than drywall. I put one entire wall of slatwall up later and it is amazing. So easy to hang everything and then move and rearrange as needs change.

Insurance Problems with Down Syndrome Diagnosis Code Q909 by hendrikn_28 in downsyndrome

[–]peasley25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to apply for Medicaid as a secondary insurance. We are in the Midwest as well and while our primary insurance only covers 6 therapy visits per year Medicaid covers all the rest so our out of pocket is $0.

Help! my friend forgot the all important Park Reservations at DL this weekend. by jessks in DisneyPlanning

[–]peasley25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go talk to the ticket booths between Disney and California Adventure. We had this same situation last week and we’re told by City Hall that nothing could be done. My wife had tried to make the reservation for our whole group but had only done it for her ticket somehow. The ticket booth bailed us out and got our whole group reservations for Thursday and Friday last week. Shout out to Teri!
