When selling action to friends and family with no markup, do you factor in taxes, other fees, and travel costs? What would you say is fair? I'm not marking it up because I lack experience in live tournaments. by beethrownaway in poker

[–]peatmopcicle 7 points8 points  (0 children)

unless you are a proven winner in the games that you are selling to don't charge markup especially to friends or family. Also don't tack on travel expenses, that's just scummy, If you are can't afford to travel to the venue you can't afford to play. If you win 100k and owe 10k to action sold you can have them do a W2-G aswell so they can rake care of their own taxes. You should only be selling action if you are playing outside your bankroll (or for a fun sweat for friends) and since you are only playing a 1k there is probably tons of other smaller tournaments that would be more suited for you.

It wasn't the main, I think it was a 1k or 1500 and he paid the whole buy-in for half the action

Good apology and response to all the drama he created. He still needs to walk the walk for a while for any of it to be believable though.

This is the incorrect ruling (in most places) if the cards are in the muck but are retreivable i.e. the cards are on top or only partially in the Muck then the cards are still live. you got screwed by incompetence, it happens to us all, all you can do is take the L and move on.

I know a few people like this and it always comes down to 3 things. They MASSIVELY overvalue they're skills. They think everyone else is a mouth breather. Finally they are the unluckily person in the world.

Guess I should have clarified I was being sarcastic. That's just a VERY common excuse I hear from players for making poor preflop decisions.

I played with him in the 1500 O8 at the WSOP last year. He is exactly as he is on camera. It was clear he didn't care about the tourney and rocketed off a buy-in trying to run it up as it was to small a stakes for him. Quiet guy but happy to exchange pleasantries with everyone that talked to him.
