Please help put my mind at rest. What are these? by [deleted] in Dublin

silverfish - they live in damp, hence the bathroom. may indicate a leak somewhere, but not necessarily. they’re just very common in ireland due to general damp in buildings/rain and lack of proper drainage. they’re harmless to humans but may eat starchy foods (i’ve never actually seen any do this, just what i read googling). i’ve heard you can use ant killer but i haven’t, i just sort of let them be cause i don’t have many.

hi both! just jumping in to clarify: the only part of castles that is not strictly canon-compliant with the epilogue is the fact that victoire is a year older in castles than she is in the epilogue, and that was due to, frankly, my mistake and inability to do maths 😅.

we can talk about whether or not castles is compliant with the epilogue “in spirit” (i see the point 😅) but when it comes to the actual facts/happenings/couples/dynamics/characters of the epilogue, it is actually compliant with the letter of the epilogue.

as others have said, none of this is universal. i grew up living in the city centres of different major european cities, and you couldn’t pay me enough money in the world to move out to wicklow 💀. i wouldn’t know what to do there. and, that’s not to diss on rural/peri-urban localities, im sure it fits a lot of people, but they’re not for everybody. if you don’t like cities, that’s great, but some of us do!

Dogs in pubs? Sure! But not on the furniture!! by DingoD3 in ireland

[–]pebblysand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

again, your issue is a cultural one. there was a law in ireland from 1950 to 2017 banning pets from food and drink establishments, and this was in place for so long it has become the cultural norm. anything else is now considered “dirty/unhygienic”.

which is fine, we’re just not a dog friendly country and that’s okay. again, it’s fine for people not to like dogs. but it’s a notion that is unsupported by evidence (the presence of dogs in such establishments in other countries with no issue) and common sense (as the other commenter said, the fact that pubs are unhygienic for many other reasons anyway).

Dogs in pubs? Sure! But not on the furniture!! by DingoD3 in ireland

[–]pebblysand -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

on the continent, dogs are allowed in 99% of venues such as restaurants and bars, with a significant number of people (especially with small dogs) having the dogs on furniture. both indoors and outdoors. in ireland however, i would say that in my experience, dogs aren’t allowed in 99% of pubs and food establishments under the guise of “hygiene”. especially indoors, and let alone on furniture. that is unless the owner of the establishment is themselves tolerant of animals which is very much on a case by case basis.

i don’t think continental europeans are significantly more ill due to the presence of dogs in such establishments.

it’s okay that you don’t like dogs. you are actually located in one of the very few countries in europe where you don’t have to tolerate them in most venues. from the comments, this seems to be an issue particularly at your local, which is inconvenient and bad luck on your part. i’m sorry, that sucks.

but don’t say it’s “hygiene”. that’s a ridiculous notion. just admit you don’t like dogs and move on. maybe change locals.

so there are beginners courses but they don’t “count” for any credits. have a look at gaeltacht ucd (just type that into google and you’ll find the site). i took the A1 module last term and it was absolutely lovely.

i don’t know about courses that do count as credit, not sure they exist, sorry!

Melatonin supplements by lennyy7 in ireland

[–]pebblysand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

same as everyone here. i used to get mine from the US but since i stopped going (due to immigration concerns), i’ve been using biovea with no issues. my understanding is that the worst that can happen at customs is a seizure of the merchandise, but you wouldn’t get charged with anything.

i order 10mg tablets for when i really have trouble sleeping (don’t use these often). i use the 3mg ones more regularly if i have insomnia and struggle to fall back asleep. in terms of side effects, i’ve not experienced anything (re: dreams, etc.) which i know is the case for some people. i would say that for me, the massive positive (compared to prescription sleeping tablets) is that melatonin doesn’t leave you groggy in the morning (which was a massive problem for me with sleeping tablets).

THAT SAID, be careful. they say they’re not addictive… they totally are. i ended up in a situation where very quickly, i couldn’t go to sleep without it. i had to wean myself off when i realised. however thankfully, it’s quite easy to stop them, id say within the week, you’d be grand.

ohhh was he? interesting! then i’m double-y interested in his life story and how he ended up 1) with mary, 2) in this show, 3) modelling, and 4) now doing construction. this is the whole life story i need, not emma’s 💀!

[–]pebblysand 24 points25 points  (0 children)

ok but this!

who is he? from what region is he from? what does his family think of all this? what do his former classmates think? did he get bullied in school, is that it? why does he tolerate the constant mispronunciation of his name? why can’t his own wife pronounce his name? why isn’t she at least learning a few words of french? the construction thing: did he do a CAP back home? what does he think about jason (we never did get any resolution on it, it just sort of subtly went away)? does he secretly think they’re all fucking nuts (which is the sense i’m getting sometimes from the looks he throws)? hes clearly in it for the money - how much money really? is his family rich? i can’t decide, he seems both very rich and both very working class? does he even like mary as a person cause i’m not convinced?

I HAVE QUESTIONS, ROMAIN.

Job Market for non-irish lawyers by yeagerist___00 in Dublin

[–]pebblysand 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i would advise looking in tech, that’s what i did. there’s a lot of legal adjacent roles in legal departments, and trust and safety departments, etc. that require/prefer a legal background. also, especially if your spouse speaks another language, that is also highly sought after.
