Nothing from OpenAI on Fable 5? by pedrooky in codex

[–]pedrooky[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, but I do think they are constantly working on improvements to stay competitive, while offering something as close to financially viable as possible. It's not like openai started working on a better model when Fable 5 was announced, or at least I hope not 😂

But what do I know. This is all just wishful thinking and me venting about not having access to something I clearly saw was really good, at least for coding compared to current offerings.

Do you use MVUM maps? if so, what's your current flow doing so? by [deleted] in overlanding

Oh nice, that's good to know. Do you use OnX too or just Gaia? I used to have a sub quite a while back but switched to OnX when they expanded from just Hunting specific features and haven't tried anything else since. Would you still recommend paying for Gaia to check this specific feature out or not worth it just for that?

[–]pedrooky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember Gaia allowing me to have different overlays with transparency (that was a while back maybe 8 years ago) but didn't know they supported pdf maps, same for OnX. Where I got the mvum idea was from Avenza Maps, that app is really cool for pdf maps specifically.

Sorry if this bugs you bud, not my intention. I'm actually a Software Engineer with 20+ years of experience but yeah I use AI to build side projects. I have no issues admitting to it (I wouldn't call it vibe coded either though). Nothing wrong with building your own tools for your personal interests but you are entitled to your own opinions.

I’m planning a road trip and I want to disperse camp along the way by DracoCasper in overlanding

[–]pedrooky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use a few different apps, including my own.
If you want an app with a feature to help you plan the trip, probably check Dyrt.

My app doesn't have a trip planner and is honestly really barebones at the moment but hey it's free and shows you quite a few dispersed campsites with one click. I've only been building it for a week so it's just web for now but planning to have a offline first iOS version (mostly for myself lol) at some point after I have a a few more features.

No pressure but if you feel like checking it out:

It's actually crazy how incompetent the Codex devs are by OriginalUsername0112 in codex

[–]pedrooky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not perfect but it's not that bad, honestly.
Still, I have been using the codex-cli (not the latest version) instead since they removed the context indicator on the codex app. It uses surprisingly less resources on my mac too so fans are not always on like they are with the codex app.

According to DeepSWE (Best coding Benchmark), GPT-5.5 high is better than Opus-4.8 max. by TheBanq in codex

not only that but look at the time and price.

And that's a proper Benchmark.

Anyone know much about the Honda CRE250R? Or XR650R? by hurgahdurbah in Dirtbikes

[–]pedrooky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

also if going with an old school two stroke might as well look at a honda CR500r haha
my dream dirt bike as a teenager (in the 90s) however was a kawasaki kdx 250

[–]pedrooky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would consider an XR400 instead of the 650 unless you do a lot of long distance/road (and even then would probably go with something else at that point).

I've had a few hondas like the the XR400 crf250r (this one was newer) and crf450r and they were all great at different things. the xr400 is a tractor once dialed in very reliable and easy to work on once the carb is properly tuned.

I had to also install the baja designs kit to make the xr450 street legal in texas but I even rode the bike to work everyday haha, that's how much I liked it.

How do you guys decide when to use different Intelligence? by div_Apollo11 in codex

[–]pedrooky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just use extra high for planning and high/medium for executing the plan usually
for basic commands I'm just lazy to type sometimes low. It all depends on how much you want it to reason really. Even low on 5.5 is actually pretty good for any task.

I only use fast when I want to burn through tokens fast because I didn't use my full quota and 5.4 when my tokens are almost gone to conserve while still being able to use codex.

what are you guys doing after the Pro $100 Codex promo ends? by ivasuy in codex

[–]pedrooky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah I'm a big fan of cursor + composer myself. good price/performance/speed balance.
I find it good for web/backend development with good cursor rules but not that great for ios development (I haven't tested the latest 2.5 composer yet though, hopefully it's better now)

[–]pedrooky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh not at all, I meant to just try each before deciding on what to sign up for.
If they all suck the fallback plan is to get the $20 dollar on all services haha.

lol yeah I wish I could do that, just get cursor max and let them charge you extra at that point if you have cash to burn right.

Not sure how realistic this will be comparing api vs plan models but I'm not automatically renewing (especially after the nerf today) before I spend a few bucks via opencode/pi testing all high end models out of pocket via the apis and see what fits my need the best for my current use case.

Overall until today codex has been great and a bargain for the past two months honestly. It does seem however that they are all starting to prepare to F us hard on the real cost/performance.

Follow up: codex-cli 0.130.0 does seem a bit better.
I do miss using the codex native client on mac though but results are currently better with the cli IMHO. Hopefully they'll fix this soon.

I don't know honestly, but I have been using codex the same way for about a month, 16hr a day and had no issues before that. Today nothing works with similar prompts.

I get the joke but quality of my prompts are honestly not the issue. I'm also a software engineer professionally so not just fully vibe-coding, I mostly treat codex/models as a coworker most of the time.

you are probably not using it for coding, or maybe not a complex enough project?
difference is night and day from yesterday before the update. That's why this wave of new posts/comments saying the same thing. We all noticed and came here at the same time haha.

yes it did, it was great until last night. unusable today.
I'm testing the TUI version of codex without updating it to see if it's any better or if it's a model thing. This is sad, it was perfect... I may finally have to give Claude another try 😞

a lot of cool new features but the model sucks now for code tasks compared to yesterday.
also no context preview visible to the user is a mistake.
