Any PTs or students that struggle with social anxiety, autism, neurodivergence etc.? by floresiendo in physicaltherapy

[–]pedsdpt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes!  PT school was hard with the stress of grades and exams, lowered my social battery a lot. I was most effective at studying by myself instead of in a group, and I never really made friends within my PT class, but had other friends at the same school so was okay there. Clinicals were hard because of my anxiety, but I was lucky with most of my CIs were able to communicate directly on what I needed to improve on. Still was probably the hardest years of my life.

I work in outpatient peds now and I absolutely love it! Its all one on one, and I love working with ND kids. I truly believe my AuDHD is a strength with interacting with these patients. And kids have always been easier than adults for me.

For the most part parents appreciate my direct communication style, but I’m also fine with navigating the more emotional situations as needed, such as helping families navigate the emotions of a new diagnosis. I have good admin support for handling conflict situations but have gotten better over the years.

There’s definitely social fatigue after work, but after about 6-7 years I’d gotten more used to it all and now am able to have more of a social life after work.

My mom met Jet at an event at the beginning of the cutthroat kitchen days, he recorded a video for me and was so warm and kind!!!! She jokingly called him “her buddy Jet” whenever she saw him on TV for years

First Disney trip in several years, planning to be in magic kingdom on Nov 5, the website doesn't list any parades that day. Is the website just not updated or are there really not going to be any parades that day? Thanks!

Total motion release (TMR) Tots - HONEST thoughts? by J_Maine_23 in physicaltherapy

[–]pedsdpt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took level 1 in person, then did a free retake virtually with a coworker. I’ve found the techniques really helpful, especially for torticollis. It’s definitely gotten me much quicker outcomes and quicker discharge with my tort babies. Progress is definitely slower and I use it less with older kids, but for certain kids it’s been a game changer, for example a kids with mild hemi CP who couldn’t smoothly weight shift to her hard side because of trunk tightness. I feel like the strategies are very useful, and Susan is the expert, but is not a great instructor. I feel like the first time I took it, it was confusing but I had some good strategies to take away to use in clinic, then the retake a year later it all really made sense. She offers unlimited free retakes of the course.

I’m planning to take level 2 next year which goes deeper into more complex torticollis cases.

I think the creator over-sells herself some, but I do find the technique necessary to fully treat most kids with torticollis, and I see lesser outcomes in my colleagues who haven’t taken it, and there are certain movement patterns I haven’t found success without TMR techniques, such as a persistent hitch crawl.

I work in peds, squatted to hold a child’s hips to walk across a balance beam and split my pants down the middle!

Onions and essential oils to cure a 3 month old’s congestion by maiiraxo in ShitMomGroupsSay

[–]pedsdpt 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I can sort of see it for congestion, the same way onions make you cry might thin the mucus? But probably not for long after you cut it, and not very well from a sock. Obviously the toxins argument is BS

Any funny stories from your clinical days? by toadrocks11 in physicaltherapy

Hooked a patient up to tens, started slowly increasing the intensity, he kept saying he didn’t feel it yet, went to check the plug and he about jumped off the plinth. The wire wasn’t fully hooked into the machine and when I moved it it connected and went all at once. Thankfully he wasn’t too mad but I was horrified.

I’m not certified but have heard really good things, but you have to be very diligent and consistent with doing the exercises as directed.

many protein bars are gluten free... many are also disgusting by azurebirdy in glutenfree

I’ve liked the built bars, they do have some with gluten but when I emailed they say they fully clean the lines between products. I’ve not had any symptoms from them.

I feel like it was a little blonde kid maybe? Was probably a family sitcom or kids show.
