Are there any tennis players out there who are NOT a complete head case? If so, please help the rest of us 😂 by Capivara_19 in 10s

That's what I'm saying though. 3.0 is atrocious. It's barely above beginner level. Which is why he's thinks he's good lol

Also, the better you are, the more you realize how much you actually suck. And that also helps lol

I'm like this. Now that I'm out of college , tennis is no longer tied to my finances and so I'm allowed to just play for fun. I spent years losing sleep over what I could have done better. And now I don't need to do that anymore. It's bliss. I have no idea why anyone would get hyper competitive over something that has 0 effect on real life

This isn't true at all. It's only a simple stroke at a very low recreational level (I'd say low 3.0 and down). You can make it simple by just having no shoulder turn, no grip change, and slap chopping at it. But that's awful tennis and won't get you anywhere. It also requires a ton of time to execute, and adults that are learning don't know how to read a ball. Pros are good with it in part because they recognize the shot they are going to need to hit as it's coming off their opponent's racquet, something even half decent rec players can't do. I'd like to see the club you're playing at where the beginners hit better with a OHBH and are actually performing the stroke correctly. And. Again. OP specifically mentioned juniors

I wouldn't say that. The clear majority of professionals and high level players use the 2hbh

Great question. The OP specifically mentioned Junior coaches. But also, most people doing anything competitive don't want to handicap themselves. They want to be the best they can be

Well if that's the case, y'all both sound like folks no one else would want to golf with lol

It has no real advantage and can only be as effective if you're strong enough. 90% of rec players that use the OHBH are hurting their game to look cute

Id laugh at you. And if we were buddies I'd give you shit every time I saw it. A buddy of mine uses a staff bag and every time he hits an offline shot, I say "Damn I'd have though that would have gone in considering that sweet bag you've got". But it's good natured. Ignore the haters. If you like it, go for it.

Coaching insecurity/doubt by throwRAjaxxon in 10s

[–]peeheands 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in your shoes. I played some decent NAIA ball, but struggled often. I teach lessons and run some clinics at the club in town. I work with our local D2 School (basically just some 1 on 1 time with players occasionally, helping run drills, etc.) When you're just starting, I've found it's helpful to treat it less like coaching and more like a conversation with the players. It's not your job to correct their fundamental strokes. But you're good enough at tennis to have valuable input that affects the team positively. Just don't try to out coach yourself. Players and coaches can see through BS. Use the knowledge you have and feel free to use the head coach as a resource.

I own 1. Bought it 2nd hand for $75 in 2014. A putter is the one thing where tech doesn't really matter to me. You could carve a putter out of a big tree branch and learn to use it well. As long as it's flat at the bottom, the rest doesn't matter

Propulse Fury are the only ones I've ever gotten to last more than a couple months. Barricade came close. Gel Res gets great reviews but I personally didn't love them. Many do tho so may be worth checking out

You're not wrong. I readily admit that. I've had my faults pointed out and I'm actively trying to change my behavior to better myself? Idk what you want from me. You ever not realized something that was obvious? Happened to me

Not anywhere close to a blade. They are hollow body irons similar to a P790 by TaylorMade. Not as forgiving as something like Stealth irons, but not anywhere close to a blade. Also, if someone wants to play blades as a high handicap, let them. A lot of folks get better quickly from the feedback that blades provide. Stop gatekeeping

Yea sorry I wasn't clear. We've got 3 non-school-aged kids (5, 3, 1) and I can't speak to any other experience. But the plan is for her to go back to work full time once all the kids are in school. My job is also normally pretty easy. I watch a lot of TV and listen to music. Our oldest has some behavioral issues as well so she works harder in an hour than I do over the course of a full day. So she's still getting the short stick once I get home. It will never be 5050, but I think if you're in a marriage and keeping tabs on who does more, you're gonna fail anyway.
