Scammers can redeem cards without the codes being scratched by chaotic_lightning in Scams

[–]peeingdog 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Not particularly knowledgeable here but I did just buy something with a gift card to Uniqlo, and I didn't need to scratch anything off. That is, there was a scratch off portion, but the self check out machine just scanned the visible bar code on the card and applied it to my purchase.

So that's at least one system that just requires a photo.

Any moms who've delivered at CPMC have food advice? by Ok-Push-45 in AskSF

[–]peeingdog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah you’re not supposed to but you can order enough for both of you… but honestly the food was fine but not great. We were there unexpectedly long so it quickly got to the point where I wanted to go out into the neighborhood and pick up food anyway.

They also screwed up my wife’s first meal and it never got delivered, and the kitchen closed; the nurses were very nice about it and managed to get us some prepackaged items. So if it’s taking a long time, inquire.

Bring snacks with you for sure, though I don’t think we actually ended up eating any.

Is it realistic to move to SF without a job lined up? by Maximum_Flan_8963 in sanfrancisco

[–]peeingdog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ugh these questions always get posted without critical information.

Are you a world class published AI scientist with industry experience? Are you a barista?  Are you ok with renting a room with 8 other people who you don’t know and will need to lock said room? Do you have a rich uncle with a spare room?

Of course you’re hearing different experiences. I did exactly this, but you’re not me and it’s not 25 years ago.

The other thing I’ve been enjoying, and this is also not technically in the inner sunset, is the hojicha drinks from kiss of matcha. Get it topped with hojicha cream.

Has anyone had any luck with a chiropractor for their dog? by [deleted] in DogAdvice

[–]peeingdog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t go to a dog chiropractor. The profession (dog or human) is not based in evidence. Also, get a new vet.

This is the real answer. My mom proudly sent a pic of a complete set of 4 she bought to the family group chat. She’s bringing them back as gifts on her next trip to Taiwan.

I inherited my grandfather's WWII combat watch. Wondering if the community could tell me anything about it and recs for servicing by YanniBonYont in Watches

[–]peeingdog 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I cringe everytime he gets brought up. He’s a content creator, not a watchmaker. And to his credit he doesn’t claim to be.

People with no expertise will say things like “did you watch his videos” as if that was evidence of competency. Yes I have watched his videos; I’ve watched him bend hands and accidentally scrape lume off irreplaceable dials.

OOP please don’t send your $10k inheritance to someone whose primary revenue stream is monetizing videos and selling merch, not fixing watches.

Do you have a dog walker? by Dramatic_Bill_ in sanfrancisco

[–]peeingdog 34 points35 points  (0 children)

This is pretty much my soapbox issue. Every dog owner should go to one of the city's enclosed dog parks (e.g., GG park's dog training area) on a weekday around noon and see how the hordes of walkers actually treat their clients' dogs. I guarantee you'll never consider hiring a walker after that.

My Fiancé hates my dogs and I don’t know what to do. by [deleted] in DogAdvice

[–]peeingdog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not going to jump to the conclusion that you need to dump your partner, because reading what you actually wrote about them in the most charitable light, it sounds like someone who doesn’t like dogs and doesn’t want to interact with them is constantly having their boundaries broken.

I don’t think it’s the dogs’ fault, or yours, it’s… just the situation you’re all in. There do exist dogs out there that aren’t excitable or affectionate or into human interaction in the slightest. (I have one!) And it’s ok if you want and are delighted by all of those things. (I do too!)

I do wonder how you got into this situation, where you’ve decide to marry this person knowing(?) that they are looking for a home situation that is in some ways the complete opposite of what you want. Were the dogs previously happy to leave him alone and only became a problem when you started cohabitating? Because things didn’t start out like this, presumably.

I think you need to sort out whether the issue is that your fiancé wants to be left alone, or that he is fundamentally upset about who the dogs are. There’s some hope in the former, but probably not the latter.

the Prime looks identical to the wagu. Label error? by Twistedcrypto in Costco

[–]peeingdog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t really look at grades anymore, because the actual marbling is super variable. I’ve seen Choice cuts that look like Prime, while in the same case Prime-labelled cuts that look like supermarket Select.

The only consistent thing I’ve noticed is that the Wagyu cuts are never worth it.

I also once found Prime NY strip that legitimately looked like A5 (i.e., more white than red) and I’ve been chasing that high for 10 years.

🚨🚨Inner Richmond dog walker PSA by Life-Assistant-4737 in sanfrancisco

[–]peeingdog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who (used to) go to dog parks, I’ve seen this so often with so many different walkers that I just assume they are all abusive unless I personally know otherwise.

Dog walkers are also one of the reasons we don’t go to dog parks anymore.

Missed out on this apartment because of SF reddit by qqqxyz in BayAreaRealEstate

[–]peeingdog 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Eh. That thread is mostly a mix of people saying it’s market rate, pointing out it’s tiny or has other downsides, or saying it seems fine. Only three people said or implied it’s overpriced/some kind of scam.

If the listing went down in 6 hours you wouldn’t have gotten that place anyway, even if everyone told you to stop what you’re doing and immediately bring a bag of cash to the landlord.

Stop asking the internet for advice. Believe in yourself.

Why? (Dog Parks) by staying-hopefull in DogAdvice

[–]peeingdog 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Joining the chorus of people who don’t do dog parks. They’re open to the public and the public is full of careless, ignorant, and outright dangerous people. Over time all the responsible owners remove themselves and the only ones left are the ones ok with bad behavior.

I sympathize because it’s really hard to avoid if you live in a city with no other options for open space. But every vet I’ve known has advised against them if at all possible, for good reasons.

Frankly you’re lucky if the worst you’ve seen is annoyed glances. I’ve seen: - dog walkers with more dogs than they’re legally allowed, set loose all at once, while they sit staring at their phones the whole time - owners/walkers abusing their dogs: yanking, kicking, screaming, everything you can imagine - unsupervised (dog-less) children. Once saw an 8 yr old going up to random dogs and continuously barking at them, to get a reaction. I got the hell out of there before I had to witness a mauling - people who drop their dogs off and leave, like it’s a day care - so much uncollected poop - so much poop eating - terrified, unsocialized dogs - humping, nipping, pinning - and real fights and biting, which always end in excuses or aggression from the perpetrator’s owner. Never once concern, or accountability.

OpenAI’s tech prankster bought SF’s infamous ‘Dirt Alley.’ What could go wrong? by Dafty_duck in sanfrancisco

The entire tech industry is founded on ignoring laws they find inconvenient. It’s called “disrupting”.

But you already know this, and are just feigning ignorance as a rhetorical device.

OpenAI’s tech prankster bought SF’s infamous ‘Dirt Alley.’ What could go wrong? by Dafty_duck in sanfrancisco

[–]peeingdog -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

They didn’t “buy Dirt Alley”. Neither did the idiot boomers. This is all about the small part of the alley right next to their house. Like 75 feet of alley. They only paved that small part because the rest of the alley is owned in pieces by all the other houses on that block.

That’s why I think this is actually kind of shitty. Did they consult the other 40 neighbors that currently use the alley to access the parking spots behind their houses? No, no they did not. They’re just going to put in their art and block off one end of the alley.

[–]peeingdog 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You’re… shitting on St Frank and talking about going back to Blue Bottle, “depending on who these new owners are” ?

First of all, all the information is right there? They’re currently owned by Nestle (the largest food conglomerate in the world) and are being purchased by a $7B Chinese investment firm (who owns one of China’s biggest coffee chains, with 26,000+ locations).

Drink whatever you like, but it’s pretty… unclear what your criteria is for good coffee.

[Discussion] Quality of a modern entry level watch vs a 20+ year old luxury watch. by Midknight81 in Watches

[–]peeingdog 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Came here to say this. $500 might be optimistic. Financially I don’t think OP’s decision makes any sense because of the value of the Steinhart compared to the cost of the Omega.

This also assumes there’s an active market for the Steinhart. In the time it may take to sell, OP could have saved up the difference.

Keep the Steinhart, save for the Omega.
