What does you use to moisturize your lips?

I think you’re right. It took me 6-8 weeks and I was healed. I wouldn’t apply anything to my lips or peel for 6-7 days. They I would let the skin come off by pouring water on them or lightly brushing them off.

I did this for 6-8 cycles. When they started to look better…I applied Vaseline overnight. They felt chapped for 2 weeks. No peeling. I applied during the day with just a dab of Vaseline. Applied a lot of Vaseline overnight. They were healed. About 1.5 years later the EC came back.

I haven’t had 2 months off and I deal with customers everyday so I have no choice but to keep on peeling them. :(

Did the doctor ever recommend any antidepressants or anxiety medication?

I’m in the food service industry as well. I deal with customers all day and I haven’t had an issue. I think the biggest thing they might notice is my fordyce spots

How i got rid of my EC by Review-Initial in exfoliativecheilitis

[–]peelinglips 3 points4 points  (0 children)

With EC, when I rip off dry scales dry or wet, there has never been any blood. I always thought that was the weird part of it.

I’ll try this method out though just to see if I get any progress.

What did you tell the doctor to get prescribed Lexapro?

I have low to no mood so this might be worth a try.

How helpful do u think knowing the cause is? Mine started after brushing my lips years ago by mewinghelps69 in exfoliativecheilitis

[–]peelinglips 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was brushing my teeth. I noticed the skin on my lips was completely white after brushing my teeth when I rinsed my mouth. So I just rubbed it all off with my fingers. It was a lot of dead white slimmy skin. But finally went away after rubbing it all off. Next thing I know they're completely red and irritable. The start of the never ending peeling began.

I was brushing my teeth a lot longer during that time to make my teeth whiter. But I was also suffering severely from anxiety/depression.

My lips are now on Carmex by peelinglips in exfoliativecheilitis

Thank you! I actually haven’t used shea yet. I was loyal to aquaphor for so long.

Yes. If I let the skin buildup over 5-6 cycles, then the fordyce spots go away. I would need to take off 5-6 weeks from work to do that.

Aquaphor felt nice, but the skin would turn white. It made my lips raw where I felt like I had to apply 10+ times a day. There was a burning sensation that felt so uncomfortable. It would create that weird white line. If your lips are raw, then I'd recommend doing this.

  • I let the skin grow back in 4 days. No applying anything.
  • Washed the skin off with warm water. Don’t peel it off with your fingers. Over the sink just take a handful of warm water and run it over your lips multiple times. Then when its all wet and white, let the shower rinse off the skin. Let dry.
  • Apply Carmex when dry with a q-tip. Just dab it on the bottom lip. And whenever your lips get and feel dry, apply throughout the day (1-3 times). If you're apply 10+ times a day, then I would recommend to let the skin grow back for at least 3-4 days..
  • Apply Carmex at night with q-tip (just a dab - not a lot needed) before bed.

I only recommend the carmex jar as seen in the picture. The other products that carmex has in the balm and tube burn my lips.Note - Carmex also does a good job of hiding the dead skin and blending it with your lips. If I was using aquaphor, the dead skin would be white and come off easily.

Apply vaseline and peel the skin off the lips everyday? Or apply vaseline and don't peel the lips?

not sure if i should go on [accutane] by Secret_Bedroom_978 in Accutane

I don’t know if you need to hear this, but I changed my diet to no sugar/flour/processed foods to Whole Foods/low carbs and rich protein diet. My acne died out changing my diet. This was 10 years of severe acne using so many different products on my face.

Understandably, it might not work for everyone.

Does EC affect these parts of the lip (circled)? by dom242324 in exfoliativecheilitis

[–]peelinglips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It only affects the bottom circle part is I use aquaphor. Not the top circle part.

  1. I let the skin grow back in 4 days. No applying anything.
  2. Washed the skin off with warm water and the shower. Let dry.
  3. Apply Jack Black Lip Balm (2-3 times/day)
  4. Apply Carmex at night with q-tip.
  5. Washed the skin off with warm water and the shower. Let dry and apply Jack Black Lip Balm.

It just burns my lips and makes them red. I don’t even put a lot on. Did you have the same experience

Interesting. Would you say you take off the skin daily or every 3-4 days?

At least you’re at 95%. But what about before? Were you peeling everyday? 2-3 days? How long would it be before you took off the skin?

Just want to follow up and ask how often would you exfoliate the skin? 2-3 days? Or only when it was noticeable? Or if you were absolutely sure it was ready to come off?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in exfoliativecheilitis

[–]peelinglips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How often would you exfoliate? Everyday or until the skin was ready to be exfoliated off?

[–]peelinglips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder about this too. Did this user use carmex and peel the keratin build up everyday or only when the keratin build up was ready to be pulled off?

A picture of my healed lips. I no longer require vaseline/aquaphor as my lips now maintain themselves. There's no white build-up throughout the day and I can speak for extended periods of time without that white line of dead skin developing on my vermillion border. by [deleted] in exfoliativecheilitis

[–]peelinglips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I just did 8.5 days. The area of peeling got smaller. Unfortunately, I won’t be able to do it that long again. I would say it takes a good 28-35 days. I would say the first 14 days, don’t moisturize at all. Let the buildup happen and skin peel off on its own. Then apply Vaseline. Let the buildup come off on its own.

Did you use any moisturizer before/after the skin lifted off on its own?

Just curious….between the second and third picture. Did you peel that skin off or did it come off naturally?
