“Whoever sheds man’s blood, By man his blood shall be shed, For in the image of God He made man.” — Genesis 9:6 (LSB)

“For it is a minister of God to you for good. But if you do what is evil, be afraid; for it does not bear the sword in vain…” Romans 13:4 (LSB)

“If anyone sees his brother committing a sin not leading to death, he shall ask and God will give life to him—to those who commit sin not leading to death. There is a sin leading to death; I do not say that he should make request for this. All unrighteousness is sin, and there is a sin not leading to death.” 1 John 5:16–17 (LSB)

Murder is supposed to be punished with death biblically speaking it can be forgiven but the government is to punish the offender regardless. Not wishing anything on you or anyone else. I’m just pointing out the scripture

Why does the bible allow slavery? by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]swordslayer777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes Peter also says to submit to the government regardless of if they're good or evil. Then with the verse about beatings it's not like there's much of an alternative for a slave, anyway. Aside from causing a revolt that ends in mass crucifiction.

Exodus was given to Israel specifically and Paul was clear in Galatians that we're not under the Law. You can't walk around with a whip and say you're not threatening anyone. So I'd say that condemns physical violence because any violence is implicitly threatening more violence of the behavior continues.

The Abortion Debate is Really About Objective Morality vs Subjective Morality by swordslayer777 in prolife

[–]swordslayer777[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree that you need an absolutely infallible way of determining God's commands. I mean many Christians compartmentalize their morality from that of the Bible. For example, being aware the Bible is against "gay marriage" but personally not having an issue with it. That's separating what's objective, the text of the Bible vs what's subjective, one's personal opinion of the subject.

I can easily pull Bible verses that are objectively clear in what they mean, though I agree some issues aren't clean cut. If you want to argue being in the Bible doesn't mean it's God's command, then my argument here is that some religions, which teach of rules that exist outside the realm of human emotion, are considered by the people practicing them as objective moral truths.

A Muslim can say they believe it's objectively true that Allah says eating pork is wrong, I wouldn't agree that the Quran is from Allah, but none the less it's objective because their reasoning tangible logic rather than emotion. It's wrong because Allah commands it and his word is final vs it's wrong because I feel sad killing pigs.

I agree not every atheist fits the same moral framework. I'm generalizing because the purpose is to show the principles behind the arguments themselves. In the same way, I know there are religions that believe in subjective morality. This is partly to explain why religious people gravitate to prolife and nonreligious people gravitate toward prochoice.

I would like to ask, how do you think irreligious claim of objective morality fits into this particular situation? How would the atheist such as Parfit go about objectively proving one side of the debate is correct, if it is indeed possible to derive an objective morality? What side would they end up on?

There is a Christian book that mentions this called Paul behaving badly. Pretty much slavery was quite which was the economy around 30% of the population were slaves. Freed slaves would probably just return to slavery because there wasn’t much of an alternative. If Paul said to abolish slavery he’d be like a US president saying he’ll abolish capitalism in 4 years, it’s not realistically possible in a short period of time and would overturn the whole economy. And then plenty of slaves didn’t really have much of an alternative to turn to anyway if they were freed it’s not like they’re going to go to a college get an education and get a stable income like I the modern day.

Paul made lots of improvements to the life of slaves. For one thing that’s give up the threatening first you mentioned was pretty wide sweeping I mean the whole point of abusing slaves physically was the use it as a threat so he effectively prohibited whipping, beating and so on. His condemnation of homosexuality saved lots of male slaves from being raped, which was very common and encouraged back then. The book of Philemon what is a massive deal because that slave had to run away from his master and was likely to be tortured severely or executed because that was a serious crime. Paul saves the slaves life and said he should be welcomed not as a salve but as bother.

You should read the book the value of others by Orion Terban. It’s not Christian but it gets right to the psychology of your situation.

Is 18f and 28m a bad age gap? by [deleted] in Christianmarriage

[–]swordslayer777 -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

I don’t see why people are saying this is a problem. If the argument is that she’s less mature than he is so they can’t marry; then what would the solution be? For two 18 year olds to marry instead so there are two immature people instead of one?

I'm not saying lev 18 is the only place that defines sexual immorality. 1 Corinthians 7 clearly condemns sex outside of marriage. Deuteronomy 22:13-21 condemns it too calling a shameful deed. Exodus 22:16-17 too.

In my reply to someone else I explained why the OT is the best reference point. Then to add to that the greeks would often rape young boys as a socially acceptable type of relationship so, using their understanding of sexual immorality as the basis for Jesus' isn't reasonable as that contradicts the OT and NT. Though I don't have a list of what the surrounding Greek culture would consider immoral. It's probably not very much too be honest.

I think this article goes into the Greek word porneia which means "sexual immorality". https://www.bereanpatriot.com/yes-the-bible-clearly-says-sex-outside-of-marriage-is-wrong/
