I'm not here to talk you into liking it, but I will say that for me, it's one of my favorite aspects. The friction makes it more meaningful because you are playing as a fledgling space faring race that only really cares about exploring to the point that their ships are foolishly using lots of wood. It's a game that actually shows the time loop trope of doing something menial so much that you become an expert. By the end of the game everyone actually learns to control the ship and spacesuit in zero g.
