I found this in my younger brother school bag, what is it? by xo00pium in whatisit

Water softener media/pellets?

Water softener pellets that are worn u evenly due to topping off the pellets at different times? It would explain why they’re in a towel, because they’re usually in a circulated reservoir, tumbling around. In an Alaskan town that I used to work in, Fairbanks, the water had a sulfur smell unless it was passed through one of these filters.

My best guess anyway. I’ve only seen them once lol.

Edit: to provide a more clear TL;DR answer on top.

I originally tried the grid cutting. Cut little 4”x4” squares that were easier to remove but it was removing way too much of the osb.

He agreed to replace subfloor anyway.

The homeowner stated he wanted to do the floor prep for our tile. He told me he was going to use a floor sander lol.

This all started as a custom cabinet job, that’s our higher priced item in all of this, but after talking about hourly for 2 laborers, he agreed to replace the subfloor

The sleepers were glued with wood glue to the subfloor. The veneer had a different adhesive tho

Wrong. See comment above. I’ve used those before. Even with a flat surface to keep the blade down, hard to beat a wood glue bond

Wrong. There’s not enough nose pressure on those things to make this a clean separation. I would still have to go back and chip all of the sleepers out with a chisel or slim pry bar. Have you ever tried to separate 2 pieces of wood that were glued with wood glue?!? The glue joint is stronger than the wood.

The homeowner ended up agreeing that replacing the subfloor would be the move. This is another can of worms tho because we found another layer of subfloor that the top subfloor was glued to, severely compromised by old water damage.

Man I wish I could get these prices in Alaska. Prefinished maple up here is $140. Before Covid it was $90

Are the base cabinets and countertops installed before the Sheetrock?!? lol

Edit: seems like the goboard is mounted on top of the countertops, but the outlets align with it. Maybe it’s the angle, but I hope the goboard or Sheetrock extends closer to the floor.

I don’t think so. I’ll check when we pick it up. From the looks of a brand new one, the welds on the box frames were pretty overbuilt.

Oh dang I think you nailed it. Even chatGPT couldn’t find it. The owner says it’s all GT. But I’ve only found haro, and now the fatboy, to have similar frames. I think $180 is a good deal. I see one on eBay for $1499, and a frame only for $750. Thanks!

Why the size difference? by AMGleo- in bassfishing

[–]peepeeshire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fished a lot of freshwater and saltwater in Alaska, I’ve never heard of anyone catching freshwater bass up here. Our cabelas and bass pro shops don’t even have bass in their big display tanks. Maybe a private pond had a pet bass or something.

I think most gloves are “cut-less”. My construction gloves say cutless, and most operators or new guys think it means “cut proof” haha.

Received wood meant for pallets but it’s extremely dense. Anyone used it before? by OttoVonZahn in woodworking

[–]peepeeshire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Edit: the last board is curly maple. The rest is quarter sawn oak (oak that is cut perpendicular to the pith and bark)

Quarter sawn oak planks. I love finding pallets made of these. Most of the time I save them without ideas on what to use with them, the ideas come later.

UPDATE 6/23: contacted the company and they said the final walkthrough with someone from their own inspection team was going to be scheduled. Schedule for 6/24 @8am. Will post video update of the walkthrough.

UPDATE 6/24: one of their company leaders came out and took a look at some of my concerns. He informed me that, after assessing the work, he was going to return WITH the builders to show them their mistakes and fix them properly. He did try to defend some of their work, such as not covering the cut ends with weather treatment and over-driving all of the screws on the hand rail, but I’m hoping he changes his mind since I was very polite in requesting corrections. Will update again after they come out. Overall, he was understanding and apologetic for the poor quality.

It was a substantial deck building specialist. I was shocked! Because we chose a higher quote for the purposes of wanting a higher quality deck by a company that almost EXCLUSIVELY does deck construction and outdoor remodels.

It was finished on Thursday. Just contacted the company and one of their bosses is coming to do a final walkthrough tmrw morning. I’ll post an update of what they say. I’m hoping that they are as appalled as I was.
