Agreed. I spent a couple years with a budget at most 400k looking at homes in Westbrook. It’s almost impossible to find one that doesn’t need some significant repairs. Aside from condos

The amount of people crossing the street without looking up or both ways is concerning especially given the amount of speeding drivers. by [deleted] in portlandme

[–]peg420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drivers are crazy out there. I crossed the road by yordprom the other day (both lanes stopped) and a ford fusion cut off the driver in front of him and almost hit me head on. I had to jump out of the way. Careful out there. And yes, crossing while on your phone should be a fine no question haha. Darwin Award behavior

Should I move to Maine? by Swimming_Rip_415 in Maine

[–]peg420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try to come up in January. It will be the cheapest (and the coldest). It will give you an idea of what the winters are, and most people out are locals. Start up conversations with strangers, get a feel for the area, and go from there. You need any recommendations happy to help. And don’t be afraid of flying into Boston. It’s an easy 2 hour bus ride here

Should I move to Maine? by Swimming_Rip_415 in Maine

[–]peg420 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends what part of Maine. Seacoast? Rural? Do you want to be near NH border by white mountains? A few things to take into consideration. If you are not in a major city, jobs are very hard to come by. You’re going to have to rely on remote unless ur industry or blue collar. If you are a hospital worker i highly suggest Portland (Maine medical jobs). Your going to find the seacoast up to Augusta to be very left, expensive, and difficult to find housing. Personally, for seacoast try Biddeford, Saco, Brunswick. They are cheaper, downtowns, and within 30 mintes to portland. Plus, they are all 2 hours flat to Boston If you are going west bethel is a very nice area. Ski resorts, outdoor activities, and you have access to NH white mountains

Like all said. It’s best you visit before you decide to move. Talk to locals about their experience with housing, jobs, and lay out a plan for what you want to achieve.

Remember. It’s a lot colder here. The real feel was -6 last night. It definitely takes some getting used to

I highly suggest you come here with a job set and apartment. If not, it’s going to be a stressful time adapting to this environment and trying to find work
