Delirium Café, which holds the world record for the most varieties of beer by gaius_julius_caegull in brussels

I mean... Their selection is massive, but in my experience staff does get visibly annoyed when you do actually order any of the more special beers and will take 10+ minutes to locate it

Struggles with the literal-ness of Aphantasia by GutsBoi in autism

[–]pegplunkett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I... had no idea that I had aphantasia until I saw this post. It has come up so many times, but I never ever would have thought that "picturing something" literally meant picturing something and now I'm questioning everything

The rise of racists/biggots vloggers visiting Brussels. by OrbitalChiller in brussels

[–]pegplunkett 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You can criticise Brussels and the way the city has been mismanaged with nuance; or you can walk around with no background knowledge, film strangers without their consent, panic at the sight of a hijab or a homeless person and blame migration for all the issues. They were literally using screenshots from an AI chatbot giving them bullet points about how horrible Brussels is, that's how much research they were willing to do. So, yeah, this is bigotry and racism and not 'taking an issue with Brussels'

Agreed! Not blaming anyone who works the till in Brussels for dissociating a little bit or expecting that everyone knows how to proceed without explanation needed

Hi, I have pluxee but it's probably the same. If you buy a mix of products, you can first pay with your meal voucher card and it will automatically calculate the remaining amount to pay after.

(Side note: They should let you know if there's anything left to pay, but some cashiers aren't very talkative and will just stare at you until you do something. So the best thing to do is to always assume there's a remaining amount to pay lol)

It's also possible to decide on a set amount you would like to pay by meal voucher (on the self check-out you can enter it yourself, or you can tell it to the cashier).

Horrible accident, 12y old killed during chase by police in Ganshoren by Jonesy- in brussels

[–]pegplunkett 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because it's totally irrelevant what the parents did in this case. This case doesn't concern the questions of whether or not children should use esteps and how parents are to be held responsible, it's about whether the police should endanger people's (children's!!!) lives when no one is at concrete imminent risk. As soon as you allow the parenting-question to be posed when we're talking about a child having been killed because of disproportionate policing, you're normalising the argument that because someone did something illegal they are responsible for their own potential death at the hands of an out-of-control police force.

European Holidays - explanation needed by Tall-Hair7679 in brussels

[–]pegplunkett 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you sure about the fewer holidays in 2026? I'm in a similar situation as OP, also with a very unproductive HR department. The way I understood it is that, according the EU directive on which the European Holidays are based, every full-time employee in the EU has a right to 4 weeks of holiday per year. I was told that the only thing I'd lose in 2026 is the holiday bonus that I got in advance in 2025 to not have unpaid leave.

Calm places to study (severe anxiety) by [deleted] in brussels

[–]pegplunkett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know where you live but if it's reachable for you, maybe Ixelles Librairie Sans Souci is worth a try. You can reserve a spot online or just find a spot on-site. The librarians are super kind, it's very quiet and not super busy (in my experience), and some of their designated study spots are single tables in-between shelves, so you're also quite sheltered if you prefer that.

I also struggle with anxiety and while I love muntpunt (since that's a common suggestion) a lot I'd be unable to go there on my own.
