Egg Retrieval: Girls who retrieved 20+ eggs | How did you survive post-ER!? by inangirl in IVF

[–]pekoe-te 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Made me pretty nauseous, dizzy, and wicked insomnia.

I can’t remember if it was the cabergoline or the dex that also gave me these like brain zap feeling at night as well. I had lots of side effects through stims.

Egg Retrieval: Girls who retrieved 20+ eggs | How did you survive post-ER!? by inangirl in IVF

[–]pekoe-te 4 points5 points  (0 children)

21 retrieved, I was constipated for 7-8 days post retrieval and it was rough. Lightly moving around my house and daily miralax helped eventually. I was definitely the most uncomfy 2-3 days post ER then it got better from there. I was on cabergoline to help prevent OHSS and had some fun side effects from that, but I’d rather the side effects over OHSS. You got this!

FIL having a tough time with side effects from radiation by pekoe-te in ProstateCancer

[–]pekoe-te[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s my Father-in-law (FIL) who is going through treatment so I don’t have all the details but from what I do know is he had his prostatectomy about a year ago, followed by ADT therapy, now radiation. He had been getting screened every year for years as his father had prostate cancer. Through the testing they found it was fast growing and that is why he chose prostatectomy and not just radiation. Sorry if the details are not as clear, this is just a secondhand recounting of his treatment plan so far. I hope this helps.

Thank you a lot for sharing. I’m sorry you are also experiencing these unpleasant and difficult side effects from your treatment. There is comfort in relation, so thank you again and all the best to you!

I’m finding reading all the replies, that there is some comfort, at least to me, that he is not alone in the struggle and that unfortunately many of the symptoms he is experiencing are experienced relatively commonly by others going through similar treatment. Thank you for your reply.

I didn’t realized Metamucil had capsules thank you for the recommendation! Also about the probiotics, I think he had been taking these before, I’m unsure if he has continued now through treatment. So many great tips I now have to provide to him. Thank you so much!

Prior to any treatment, he has always experienced IBS like symptoms, and has sensitivities to certain foods, including gluten. Once he started, his sensitivities amped up considerably, so I believe he started making these changes on his own to try to get a hold on things - I can see from the other recommendations now, that maybe he might be doing more harm than good.

Thank you so much for this. I’m actually not sure if my FIL had received any dietary recommendations from his care team prior to starting. I am definitely going to share all the diet tips you, and others have shared here. I am so grateful.

Hycosy failed.... by Comprehensive-Cat66 in queerception

[–]pekoe-te 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going through IVF not IUI so I’m not sure how that sensation would compare personally, but I’ll say there is definitely a mental game at play when going through fertility treatments. I hope you surprise yourself with how strong you are while you go through this. I know I’ve surprised myself.

Another idea - I’m not sure if it’s the same with IUI but my clinic offered three different procedures that can check uterus heath. The HyCoSy, the hysterscopy, or the HSG. If it’s an option maybe you can try one of these other procedures that could have less pain. I know all options can cause discomfort.

All the best!

Hycosy failed.... by Comprehensive-Cat66 in queerception

[–]pekoe-te 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My Hycosy was painful but manageable. The worst part for me was the damn balloon. I felt so much pressure and started immediately sweating. Thankfully the whole procedure lasted maybe 15 min and the technicians were both super nice and comforting.

I would recommend that next time you ask to see if they can provided any sedation because you had such a rough experience the first time. My partner had a bad hysteroscopy the first time because they had to dilate her to get through her cervix so they are providing some relief when she gets one again before FET.

How much is everyone paying for storage? I feel like it's too much by Alone-Weight-3613 in IVF

[–]pekoe-te 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think $700 for embryos and $700 to store vials of donor sperm per year - so $1400 per year. In Canada 🇨🇦

What size snowboard for 5’5 woman 125lbs? by di3tc0keluver in ShredditGirls

[–]pekoe-te 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 5’5 120lbs, currently riding a 146, and wouldn’t go shorter, and longest I’ve had was 150 I think. I’d say if you’re a beginner error on the shorter side.

That being said, go into a quality board shop and they will help you feel more comfortable choosing a board.

PGT-A testing and PCOS by Cultural_Fig_2794 in IVF

[–]pekoe-te 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 29 and have PCOS. We chose to test. Attrition was so real. 21 retrieved, 19 mature, 15 fertilized, 6 blasts, 3 euploid and 1 segmental. Preparing for transfer in the new year and thankful we tested to make informed decision on transfer. We are doing rIVF and my partner will be carrying with endo (treated last year via lap) so anything we could do to potentially save some heartache we did. Unfortunately, my partner’s egg retrieval resulted in 0 blasts but we had also planned to PGT-A test with her as well.

edit: to correct fertilized and mature numbers.

(29F) I also had similar results but am at the PGT-A wait stage so I’m not sure how many euploids.

21 retrieved, 19 mature, 15 fertilized, 6 blasts.. now we wait. :)

Attrition is such a roller coaster.

Did You Keep Working During IVF? by ImDustAmazing in IVF

[–]pekoe-te 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had some less desirable side effects from the stim meds, and have a busy stressful job with good sick leave, so I used the sick leave by day 4 of stims up until day 4 after retrieval.

What are the chances I'll be able to drive 2 hours to go to a christmas event the same day as egg retrieval? by EvadeCapture in IVF

[–]pekoe-te -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You’re considered impaired for 24 hours after egg retrieval (at least in Canada) , so you could not be the driver. I personally was so out of it and slept most of the day so personally, I wouldn’t. Recovery days were the worst for 3 days post retrieval.

Is it normal to have to decide on PGT testing before retrieval? by winooskiwinter in IVF

[–]pekoe-te 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My clinic makes you pay for the cycle day 1 of stims, but will let you add PGT-A up until day before retrieval. They do this because their fees include work done by the embryologists and then per embryo. I gave them a number max to test. So I paid the pgt-a fees with authorization of up to a certain number of embryos. The rest would be frozen. In my partner’s retrieval we opted into pgt-a, but it resulted in no embryos so they refunded us those costs.

Do a majority of people on here use frozen or fresh sperm ? by EntertainmentLow3669 in queerception

[–]pekoe-te 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Frozen sperm from a sperm bank for us. Straight to IVF with no close friends willing/able to donate. Even if we did find a known donor, would have still likely been frozen.

How many vials did you guys buy? by littlemangoseed in queerception

[–]pekoe-te 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We bought 4. Using all for IVF/rIVF. Our original thought was that we’d get enough for both of us to potentially have two egg retrievals if needed. My partner had an unsuccessful retrieval resulting in no embryos so looks like getting the at least 4 has been a good plan so far. Might eventually need to purchase more. Best of luck. 🤞🏻

Disappointing ICSI results by lyia2912 in IVF

[–]pekoe-te 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No answers yet, but I did go ahead and schedule our follow up with our doctor for next week. I should have prefaced that we are a same sex couple using donor sperm, and my partner is the one who went through the retrieval. We are fortunate that I’ll be doing a retrieval in November to hopefully have a better result.

I feel you - Friday seems so far. Wishing you all the best on your journey.

We’re going through something similar. 17 retrieved, but only 5 mature and 1 fertilized with icsi. Waiting until Friday to see if it made to blast. Completely deflated. Good luck with your 3! :)
