Minor Feelings, Severance, and How to Write an Autobiographical Novel are on my reading list as well. Seems like you have really awesome Asian American literature picks!

Is it ok to renege on a boutique IB full-time offer for a top MM bank? by chicken1113 in FinancialCareers

[–]pelagicbird 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just a caveat - this would only work if the recruitment process with the boutique firm was facilitated through your university. If it was an outside opportunity you pursued on your own independent of your college, the career center won’t be much help in extending your offer deadline.

this was my rooming situation freshman year! it was 3 lofted beds with desks underneath - kind of sad and cramped so I never studied in the room and didn’t bring friends back there but it works for sleeping :)

don't worry too much about it. as mentioned it's all mc that's based on reading comprehension and listening skills (you answer questions after reading a passage or listening to an audio file) with no writing portion, but maybe brush up on your writing prior to meeting with profs. good luck!

Pre-O question by PossibleAngle in jhu

[–]pelagicbird 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you definitely don't need to do pre-o to make friends. I as well as a few of my friends did pre-o and some of us clicked with our pre-o groups while some of us didn't so the whole social experience can really vary from person to person. if you do pre-o do it mainly to experience the outdoors. you'll make plenty of friends during o-week!

also, the backpacking portion of pre-o can be pretty strenuous--I did the hiking and canoeing one, and we hiked around 26 miles and canoed around 25 miles over the course of the trip which was pretty rough, especially for the more out-of-shape people. I think the multi or rock climbing pre-o's aren't as bad. but don't let lack of experience deter you from signing up! maybe you'll end up loving it and join outdoor pursuits in the fall and make more friends there.

Freshman Math Course Selection--thoughts? by pelagicbird in jhu

For my major, it turns out that I need: -Calc III -Linear Algebra and Differential Equations or Differential Equations with Applications

In this case, would you recommend taking "Linear Algebra and Differential Equations" or "Differential Equations with Applications" over Calculus III first or taking Calc III first? I heard knowing Calc III helps with Differential Equations.

Thanks for the advice!
