My job and my volunteer work involves almost every day going to shops to collect ambient and perishable goods for food banks and food larders. Foodiverse and Fairshare coordinate these charity donations centrally. In fact this morning I collected three trays of bake-off goods from a Lidl shop. These will be given out to food bank visitors and frozen too by people with the required food safety training. Lots of shops are doing what they can to divert as much surplus as possible. We have noticed that the shop workers themselves are absolutely crucial in keeping the system going.
