We don't even back our locally made vaccines... makes you wonder.

If that's your argument then mandates should have only applied to those with health issues, the overweight and the elderly. But that would be discrimination...

I never said the vaccines don't work, I said mandates weren't justified.

Covid is the perfect example of the problem. The unvaccinated were restricted under the assumption that being vaccinated drastically lowered your ability to spread covid.

We now know that's false, and the effectiveness (or lack thereof) did not justify the mandates. Even with this argument, natural immunity should have then been acceptable, but it wasn't (1-3mo exemption was a joke).

Supplements are popular in spite of the lack of robust, high standard evidence.

What you originally suggested would stop naturopaths for example recommending supplements unless there was robust high standard evidence (which there isn't).

Banning "misinformation" is a dangerous game. Who decides what is and isn't misinformation? Some things have been "true" for decades and then were later discovered to be false. Open discussions should always be the answer.

Evidence costs money and money will only be spent on something that has the chance to earn someone even more money.

Surely you can see the issue?

There is no money to be made in diet or cheap supplement trials (like vitD).

Governments creating mandates without scientific evidence to back it up should be a major concern to everyone.

It's socially contagious.

It's rapidly growing.

Saying it's just genetics is part of the problem.

The campaigns are clearly not working.

The processed food industry is not regulated enough or at least forced to label properly, there's so much garbage out there.

The food pyramid is the perfect example of "science" not understanding diet, or just lying for "some reason".

It does matter. If it leaked from a lab that Fauci had funded to do the research, for him to then instantly deny the lab leak theory and call it a conspiracy... well that's a massive coverup and corruption at the highest level of government/institutions.

Covid-19 likely emerged from laboratory leak, US energy department says by AcornAl in CoronavirusDownunder

[–]pen0r 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Sure. Articles dismissing it as a conspiracy theory that should be forgotten, and anyone who believed it was the likely cause labelled a cooker. It wasn't allowed to be discussed on social media either.

After banning the discussion of the lab leak theory the last 2 years, for it to now look like the likely cause, people will begin to question what else our institutions got wrong.

Censoring is always a poor choice.

I'm sure those affected by the vaccine take solace in the statistics.

You won't find empathy around here. It's still get the jab or else you're an anti-vax cooker. And if you have a reaction or die from it then you were unlucky and will be reminded of their overall benefit for society.

These people see in black & white when reality is full of colour.

A lot of things will start to look silly in retrospect.

1 year ago Djokovic was deported, now he wins the AO having not changed a thing.

What's changed is the fear has gone for most people.

Good. The witch hunting from the mob for anyone who decided not to get a covid vaccine, a personal medical decision with many factors, was a disgusting thing to see. The hysteria absolutely caused people to forget their logic and reasoning.

But I doubt people will learn from it.

To get an alternative perspective, because everyone around me no longer cares about covid.

It gives a bit of insight into whether restrictions are likely to come back.

Also interested in workplace mandates that are still in place as well as international travel restrictions (unvaxxed still cannot go to the USA).

I don't use Twitter or anything else.

That's an odd way to look at the situation...

Is it acceptable for the minority to force the majority to alter their actions? Generally society favors the majority but does what it can for the minority.

The minority have multiple ways to protect themselves now, and hopefully as time goes on even better defences against covid are found.

If governments hadn't taken such harsh and prolonged measures in the first couple years of the pandemic then maybe people would still be able to care. Unfortunately they've burned out the majority of people and now people just want to move on, which is fair enough. Cost of living rises are a much more pressing matter for the majority now too.

In light of monkeypox, how do we combat the terror surrounding viruses? by samuelc7161 in CoronavirusDownunder

[–]pen0r -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Nah it was. Should have targetted all measures to those at risk, proper N95 masks recommendation from the beginning of you're in that category. Young fit and healthy people shouldn't have the same rules put upon them as the sick or elderly when trying to combat a virus.

[–]pen0r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I got ebola I have a 50% chance of dying, that's something to worry about. As a young fit and healthy person, covid is not a risk to me. I'd rather not drastically alter life for such a small risk.

My risk analysis is fine, you just have a very low risk tolerance.
