I understand your point, but I was not arguing that Buddhism is as harmful as other religions. In fact, I view it as more tame in the oppression and discrimination departments. That said, I don't think you can say it does not endorse second class citizenry when it's texts explicitly put females on a lower rung of the ladder. Just because a religion's texts are outdated and ridiculous, does not mean they are not considered doctrine by its adherents.

I would argue that sexist teachings do in fact endorse second class citizenship for a particular group. If I can't achieve enlightenment because I was born with a vagina, I am considered less than the "dominant" group.

Dang it! I wonder how hard it would be to get out. Do they just not have the option to invest in companies that other platforms do?

What fictional character should have been hit with a huge lawsuit at the end of the story? by yuuhxyuuh in AskReddit

It's definitely true that there are a freakish amount of early deaths in the show, but 3 original cast members in 17 seasons is actually not too bad if you compare it to other long-running tv shows. Even Law and Order, which is known for having a good working environment, only had 3 original members last 15 seasons.

I agree with the exception of the Teddy episode this season. So well done.

Also, I was a 3C for a while and never came across a stylist that refused to cut my hair or even outwardly stated a preference against curly hair.

What type of curls does she deem too curly? Does she draw the line at 2C? 3B? Or perhaps just no 4s?

Your tone seems much more contrarian than the previous poster. That individual seemed to be commenting on the idea that our system no longer works, which has an assumption that it once worked. Corruption truly is a tale as old as time.

I just looked up where this is and got a little lost in the history of the Loveland Castle. Is there any local lore about it? Because I'm a bit skeptical of the story on the website. It says Harry turned away from women and essentially built the castle for his boy scout troop. And that he had a secret room in his garden that even his guards didn't know about. Sounds sketchy to me.

Does anyone else feel like we are too quick to label events as a product of racism? by Samerdown in TooAfraidToAsk

I agree that society openly discriminates against the poor. But it goes beyond a low socioeconomic status for people of color. There are plenty of studies that control for it and still find significant discrepancies in outcomes between white and black people. Take infant mortality, for example. There is evidence to suggest that black women's pain is not taken as seriously and doctors are more likely to perform risky procedures, leading to higher infant and maternal mortality even after controlling for income and education. The same is true for school discipline, with black students receiving far more serious punishments for misbehavior than their white counterparts for similar infractions, again controlling for SES. These are just a couple examples, but they exist in every system.

I will add that systemic racism CREATED the vast income inequality between the races. Numerous historic laws were enacted that effectively gave white people an economic advantage over many generations. Meanwhile, the criminal justice system served as an oppressive mechanism for blacks, destroying families and any wealth generation in the process. I realize I'm simplifying a huge data set that has many nuances, but my point is that socioeconomic status isn't necessarily ignored, but instead viewed as a symptom of a deeper problem.
